Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

It is hard to believe that the 2nd trimester ends this Friday. We will only have one trimester left in the 2022-2023 school year. The teachers are going to complete your child’s report cards on Friday. They will go home next Wednesday. Please keep an eye out for them.

Conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday next week. You can still sign-up for a time through PowerSchool. These conferences are important as it can set up our students for a strong finish for the 2022-2023. I played many sports in high school and I think every coach stressed how important it is to always finish strong. We hope to see you next week.

This is my seventeenth year in education. There are patterns that develop and no matter what attempts are made the pattern continues. I’m sure many of you see that in your own professional career. The educational pattern that I’m talking about is behavior in mid-to-late February. The stretch from January 1st to spring break is the longest one of the year for students and staff. The weather during this stretch is also not the nicest. The combination of not many days off, no breaks, lack of sunlight, etc all adds up to a drain on our emotions and drive. We have noticed an increase of name-calling, lack of patience and grace the last couple of weeks. Most of these occurrences are occurring during recess, lunchroom, and passing periods.

I’m hoping that you could give your child a little pep talk about perseverance so we can have a solid couple of weeks prior to spring break. I know that the energy reserves can get low from time-to-time. You may also feel it as well. Let’s all try to renew our energies a little bit more for these last 7 days prior to break. I will make sure I do as well.

One little reminder about the Lenten Dinner which will be held on Friday, March 17th. I have heard about some of the plans and I’m looking forward to a great OLOL Community event.

Spanish Placement Exam
