Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

The Site Advisory Committee and I are very excited about the new name for our largest school fundraiser.   The Night of Keys has been renamed Light Up Lourdes.  I would like to thank all of the previous chairpersons who have run the Night of Keys.  It has always been a successful evening in terms of achieving its two main goals, raising dollars for our students and creating a sense of community for our school and parish.  Light Up Lourdes will build on these two main objectives.

Speaking of fundraising, we have one more opportunity to raise money for our students.  Trivia Night is on Friday, April 21st.   If you haven’t gotten your table together, please do so this week.  I believe the success of the Fish dinner has put OLOL over the top of our GRACE fundraising assessment.  This means every dollar raised at Trivia Night will go directly to improvements at OLOL that benefit our students and families.  We encourage you to consider this event, which is a fun evening for everyone.  We would love to see you there.  Please call the school office if you have any questions.

Enrollment for the 2023-2024 school is continuing to be very strong.  We are very close to capacity in preschool and our younger elementary grades.  Enrollment continues during the remaining 6 weeks of the 2022-2023 school year and the summer months.  I’m very hopeful that enrollment will continue to grow in these grade levels and we will split some of these grades into 2 classrooms.  If you know any family or friends that have an interest in Catholic education at OLOL, please have them reach out to me.  Reminder, your referral benefits our school and existing families will receive a $200 deduction from their 2023-2024 tuition.  Our growth is continuing and this is a great time to start at OLOL.

We have seen a slight increase in students not arriving at school on time.  The OLOL staff and myself take our job very seriously.  Students not arriving on time disrupt the morning routine and delays learning.  If your son or daughter are arriving late, please set the alarm a few minutes earlier.  My grandmother said “timeliness is next to Godliness” (or maybe it was cleanliness).

Spring Concert News from Mrs. Lewis

It feels early, but there are a few important notes about the spring concert that I want to make sure to communicate with you sooner rather than later!

The Our Lady of Lourdes Spring Concert, A Year in Church Music, will be Thursday, May 11.  The concert will be held in the Church and will begin at 6:30 P.M.  All Kindergarten through 8th grade students are participating in the concert.  The concert is a mandatory performance for all students - every voice and instrument matters - their classmates are counting on them!

Students should dress nicely for the concert.  Boys should wear nice pants (no blue jeans, no sweat pants, no shorts) and a nice shirt (button down or polo shirt).  Sweaters, suit coats, ties, etc. are all fine, but not necessary. Girls can wear nice pants and a nice shirt, a skirt and a nice shirt, or a dress.  Skirts or dresses should reach the knee or should have leggings worn underneath.  Leggings should only be worn under a skirt or tunic-length top.

Our concert will be featuring liturgical (Mass) music that we sing throughout the year.  In class, students are learning about the church calendar and the various seasons we celebrate.  Each season has a specific color (or colors) associated with it.  Each class is being asked to wear the liturgical color of their music’s season.  From the waist up, students should be wearing a top that is at least 50% the appropriate color.  The seasons and color(s) for each class are listed below:

  • Advent - 2nd Grade - purple and/or pink
  • Christmas - 3rd Grade - white
  • Ordinary Time - Kindergarten - green
  • Lent - 4th Grade - purple
  • Holy Week - 5th Grade - purple, red, and/or white **5th graders who are in the middle school choir should wear white so there is no need to change**
  • Easter - Middle School Choir - white
  • Ordinary Time  - 1st Grade - green

**Band students who are in the church choir should wear white.  Band students who are ONLY participating as band students, can wear whatever color they would like.**

A shirt or dress that is primarily the liturgical color, but also contains other colors is 100% fine.  T-shirts may also be worn if needed.  Large logos should be avoided if possible.

All band students should arrive at school and meet in the band room by 6:00 P.M.  All other students should arrive in church by 6:15 P.M.  All students should plan on staying for the entire concert as we will be performing as a whole school at the close of the concert.

If you have any questions, please e-mail Mrs. Lewis at mlewis@gracesystem.org.
