The board recognized Leslie Lucas for her outstanding service to the district as APTA President with a commemorative framed print. Leslie has done a phenomenal job this year leading APTA’s fundraising and student programming initiatives, as well as envisioning and planning the highly anticipated middle school “makeover”. Please join us in celebrating Leslie and welcoming President-Elect Kristin Delaney.

The board also recognized APS students for their recent success on the IXL Assessment. Asha Shah is the 2024 6th Grade Challenge State Champion and Eli Miller is the 2024 8th Grade Challenge State Champion.

During the meeting, the board heard reports from staff on personnel, conference participation, athletics, 2024-25 enrollment projections, and school/council.

The board received a report from Douglas Peters of Environmental Health Management providing results from a site visit conducted on May 20, 2024. Mr. Peters attended the meeting to answer board member questions and indicated carbon dioxide (CO2) levels were within acceptable norms during the investigation. Mr. Peters detected zero carbon monoxide (CO) levels during his site visit.

The board approved monthly consent items, insurances, job descriptions, fee schedules, lunch prices, class sizes, a tentative budget and salary schedules.

Notable items included in the budget for fiscal year 2025:

  • 2% raise for classified, certified, and substitute staff
  • Funding to continue on-going district efforts to maintain and update HVAC systems and increase fresh air circulation within the building
  • Supplies requested for the exciting new Middle School choice electives courses, including conversational Spanish, Spanish culture & literature, robotics, podcasting, newscasting, digital art, technology explorations, photography, video production, modern band, seasonal & lifetime sports, high school placement testing, and drama
  • Subscription to Kentucky School Board Association’s eMeeting Services to increase efficiency, enhance transparency, and enable board members, staff, and community to utilize the latest in technology to access meeting materials

The closing days of the school year are always a busy and lively time. Thank you to all our incredible staff and administrators (and parents too!) for working so hard to make this another fantastic and fun year for all of our students!
