Last week, the board held two meetings. We celebrated Superintendent Solise as she completed her first year at Anchorage Independent and delivered her Capstone Presentation as part of the Next Generation Leadership Series for Onboarding Superintendents.
The board also completed the annual evaluation of Superintendent Solise for the 2023-24 school year. The evaluation focused on seven standards of performance and two district goals agreed on by the board and superintendent. Superintendent Solise received an overall rating of Accomplished. Superintendent Solise has had a successful first year in this role and at Anchorage Independent School District. She has led many exciting initiatives, including two major renovation projects, the hiring of an Assistant Principal and Principal, implementing middle school choice electives and increasing core content minutes, all while maintaining high achievement scores. The board in particular appreciates her exemplary professionalism and her unwavering dedication to student success.
The board heard APTA, personnel, conference participation, school/council, class size, facility and financial reports. A first reading of annual policy updates was conducted. Our school counselor, Mrs. Sara Wiles, presented the Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) Instructional Resource that she and the School Environment Committee recommended for adoption for our middle school students - Character Strong. The board approved the purchase of the Character Strong lessons, materials and related professional development. The board requested the inclusion of Character Strong training in the plan and then approved the amended Professional Development Plan for the 2024-25 school year.
In preparation for the 2024-25 school year, the board approved KDE District Statement of Assurances, school wide fundraiser requests, external contracts, wind/hail insurance, and job description revisions.
The board received training on the eMeeting platform from the vendor. We look forward to utilizing this new platform to improve efficiencies for staff members preparing board meeting documents and to increase the audience’s ability to follow along during meetings.
The auditorium renovation is on schedule and the board approved two change orders related to framing at their meeting. Photos of the auditorium are posted here if you would like to follow along as the project progresses.
