The kamancheh is considered a precursor to the cello, with roots tracing back to the 10th century. The pipa, sometimes called the "Chinese lute," has been played for over two thousand years in China. These Performances Up Close are a rare chance to join Iran’s kamancheh champion Kayhan Kalhor, the world’s premier Grammy-nominated pipa virtuoso Wu Man, and Guggenheim Fellow and Grammy Award-winning tabla player Sandeep Das together put a contemporary spin on the ancient traditions of Persia, China, and India.
