A Stitch in Time Saves Nine
Have you ever wondered about the title of our newsletter, A Stitch in Time? It's an old saying, but a stitch in time really does save nine. Fertile Myrtle was rescued by Spring Valley Pet Services in Orange County and transferred to North Central Indiana Spay & Neuter Rescue in Battle Ground, where she gave birth to nine kittens.
If Fertile Myrtle had only been fixed, SNSI would have been tasked with covering the cost of one spay/neuter surgery rather than ten. This same example is playing out all over Indiana as springtime brings many litters of surplus kittens.
SNSI has been working with dozens of Indiana groups to fix cats before they breed. We're currently working on major cat projects in North Manchester, Crawfordsville, and Camden.
These projects are in addition to SNSI's support to 80 community cat programs throughout the state.
Fixing more cats now saves time, money and lives.
Please spread the word: let people know that cats can begin breeding at the age of four months; point people to our website and other spay/neuter resources; help your neighbors if they need transportation; or help local organizations trap-neuter-return community cats. These are just a few things that you can do to help cats.

SNSI Receives Top Rating from Great NonProfits
Here's what one reviewer said about SNSI: "The Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana...IS amazing! They are 100% the real deal. With a concern for the animals AND the humans who take care of them. The staff and SERVICES are wonderful. There are SO MANY, who have been the recipient of their assistance have been served by people who are efficient, caring and passionate. A large coverage area, an incredible number of needy animals and people, with the amount of staff, they are a TRUE GIFT to both the citizens AND AGENCIES they work with. Their PASSION and devotion to their cause is an inspiration to us all!

Success Breeds Success
We've seen success in other states, but we're now seeing great success stories in Indiana! With remarkable statistics being reported, can you envision a day when Indiana is a no-kill state? As reported by The Indy Channel, the Humane Society of Johnson County decreased euthanasia rates by 83% after implementing their "Community Cat" program, with SNSI providing support. This not only saved lives, the program saved $23,000 in euthanasia costs alone.
The Brown County Humane Society is a little shelter with BIG results! BCHS has achieved and maintained an amazing dog and cat save rate of over 95%, compared to the national average of 60%.
Does your shelter or organization have a statistic to share that demonstrates the effectiveness of proactive spay-neuter programs? Please send along your story to info@getthemfixed.org.
