What To Do if a Pet Gets Stuck In an Air Duct

The video below explains what to do if a dog, cat or any other pet gets lost or stuck in your air ducts.

Planet Duct gets several calls every year about a pet falling into an air duct. In the last month, we have rescued 2 puppies. One in Pueblo and one in Colorado Springs. The one in Pueblo was 3 weeks old and fell all the way into the furnace. If the thermostat had good batteries in it, this puppy would have been killed. We were able to rescue this Yorkie. It fell in the air ducts because a child had removed the vent cover in a bedroom.

The other puppy fell into an air duct on Halloween and it took 3.5 hours to get her out. She was only 3 days old and had not even opened her eyes yet.

The pet owner called the fire department, police, HVAC companies and the Humane Society, but none of them were equipped to do air duct animal rescue. We got the call, told them to shut off the furnace and we came immediately.

Planet Duct also helps retrieve cell phones, jewelry, TV remotes and toys that get dropped down in to air ducts.

Is it time to clean your dryer vent again?

Professional dryer vent cleaning is recommended every 12 months. Cleaning your dryer vent helps:

  1. Your dryer operate more efficiently
  2. Your dryer last longer
  3. Prevent dryer vent fires

Telltale signs it is time to clean the dryer vent:

  • The dryer takes more than 1 cycle to get your clothes dry.
  • The laundry room gets very hot
  • You detect a burning smell while drying
  • Your dryer displays an airflow restriction code.
