Monarchs made the list! July 26, 2022
"The first definitive report of monarchs moving in mass comes from 1857, when a naturalist described butterflies appearing in the Mississippi Valley in 'such vast numbers as to darken the air by the clouds of them.' " Could you even imagine the sight? So many monarchs migrating that they darkened the skies. It saddens me and many of us here at Countryside, to hear that they have made it to the endangered species list. How incredibly sad. Click here to read the full article.

What can you do? Let me tell you, Countryside has an incredible selection of native plants. We have several varieties of Milkweed, the only plant monarch caterpillars eat! Click here for a short introduction to Milkweed and come on in to get yours. These perennial plants are easy to grow. Our professional staff will help you with arranging them. Plant a beautiful, native oasis for the Monarchs and other pollinators to lay their eggs, feed their young, and provide nectar for the mature pollinators. If we all do our part to help give them the habitat they need, maybe we can be a part of their survival.

We grew Swamp Milkweed this year and are offering big beautiful plants for only $4.97 each! (Regularly $14.99) You'll find them in Greenhouse 11.

Learn more about Monarchs at Monarchs and Music (also known as Monarch Mania) Sunday, August 14 at Crystal Lake Main Beach from noon to 4pm. This FREE event is family oriented and a great place to learn more about our fluttering friends.
