S.O.S is a newly organized group of residents who are interested in the historic preservation of Marion.
The mission of S.O.S is to protect and nourish the vitality of historic structures, landscapes, and districts within Marion.
The organization's purposes include:

To promote and encourage

   public awareness and appreciation of historic structures, spaces, and neighborhoods in the community

 

   community support for restoring and preserving structures and spaces of historic significance in the community

 

   a collection of preserved and restored historic structures and spaces with special visibility in the community

  

   To provide a knowledge base for historic preservation, its purpose and value, best practices, and consultative references for preserving, restoring, and sustaining historic buildings

Reception
In honor of National Historic Preservation Month, S.O.S. will host a reception on 
Thursday
May 16, 2013 
6 p.m.
at the
Marion Public Library
in the
Jay House
7th Street & Boots Street
Marion, Indiana

The winner of the essay contest will be announced.

The Endangered Marion list will be revealed.

The Jay House was built by Abijah Jay in 1888. Purchased by the Marion Public Library in 1991, it has been restored according to historic preservation best practices.

Indiana's 10 Most Endangered 
Bowen House Delphi, Indiana

Indiana Landmarks whose mission is to  revitalize communities, reconnect us to our heritage, and save meaningful places publishes an annual list of the most endangered structures in Indiana. The 2013 list is here. The Bowen House in Delphi, pictured at the right, is a prime example of an endangered building. How many such structures are there right here in our community?
