Sara Riel acknowledges that we live and work on Treaty One Territory, the homeland of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Dakota, Dene, and Oji-Cree peoples, and the homeland of the Metis Nation. We approach our work with humility and in hopes of contributing to an agenda of reconciliation.

Sara Riel Wins CHAC Program of Distinction Award

Each year the Catholic Health Alliance of Canada (CHAC) awards the Program of Distinction Award to recognize a program that is innovative, responds to a demonstrated need in the community, and provides service to people who are vulnerable and marginalized.


On May 12th, Chief Executive Officer, Tara Snider, graciously accepted the Program of Distinction Award, for Sara Riel's Warm Line.


The Warm Line increased to a 24/7 service when the pandemic affected Winnipeggers. With over 40,000 calls since the pandemic began, Sara Riel continues to offer this very important service to the many individuals still requiring support.

This interactive workshop is for caregivers, families, and friends who have someone in their life with schizophrenia. Topics covered include: symptoms and stigma, common questions caregivers and affected individuals may have, caregiver response to schizophrenia symptoms and additional resources. This is an opportunity for attendees to meet and share personal experiences.


The next workshop will take place on Saturday, July 29th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, in the basement training room at 66 Moore Avenue. Space is limited. Sara Riel a Finalist

Sara Riel was proud to be a finalist at the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce's 14th Annual Spirit of Winnipeg Awards Gala, held on June 16th at the Club Regent Casino Hotel.


In the Non-Profit and Social Enterprise category Sara Riel was nominated for their outstanding community support throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wellness Walk & Run a Success!


Sara Riel had a tremendous turnout on Saturday, May 13th, for the 2nd Annual Wellness Walk & Run, raising over $12,000. Special thanks to our many sponsors, dignitaries in attendance, Ace Burpee and Virgin Radio for MCing the event and all the supporters who came to walk and run in support of mental health and addiction.


Congratulations to Phil and Maureen Neudorf for raising the most funds for Sara Riel.

Sara Riel - a most essential community partner

Sara Riel is pleased to have received over $500,000 in the last quarter, which will keep the organizational very busy over the next year.

Grants allowed us to do many amazing things, such as: double our employment department, create a social media and marketing plan, continue our extended 24/7 Warm Line, have ASIST trainers on staff, start on the creation of a wellness room, have 7 students to assist with our Warm Line and support projects, enhance our volunteer department including 1-2-1 program and have a thorough review of Sara Riel's board governance policies.

Pride Month Filled with Activities

Winnipeg was filled with Pride activities throughout the month of June and Sara Riel was happy to participate!


Sara Riel's staff took part in the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 4th, as well as had a table at Pride in the Park at the Forks.


On June 13th, 2-Spirit Metis Knowledge Keeper/Elder Charlotte Nolin visited Sara Riel staff for Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month. She shared her 2-Spirit teachings and talked about her lived experience as a 2-spirit person.


Participants and the community took part in a Sara Riel's Pride barbeque held June 28th where everyone enjoyed hotdogs, drinks, cake, snacks, draws and games.


Special thanks to Sara Riel 2SLGBTQ+ Liaisons and our numerous staff for their involvement throughout the month.

Volunteer Appreciation Week


During Volunteer Appreciation Week in April, Sara Riel celebrated volunteers at a luncheon.


Lovleen Mathode is a Sara Riel volunteer and was presented with a framed letter from Winnipeg's Mayor, Scott Gillingham, for her excellent work within the community.

A Message from Tara


On July 4, an organizational restructuring took place at Sara Riel. This provided the ability to meet Sara Riel's capacity needs and provide leadership opportunities to the Sara Riel team.

"We are a different organization than we were a couple of years ago. We have grown tremendously, created a significant number of new programs, established bigger partnerships, and are expanding to Canada wide training. We are at sector tables influencing direction of policy and we are having an impact in the community that was never imagined", noted CEO Tara Snider.


With tremendous dedication by the team to invest their time and energy in building capacity across the organization, Sara Riel is boldly stepping into growing opportunities and is significantly increasing the impact it is making in the community.
