Since 1897 Santa Maria Community Services has been a catalyst and advocate for families to attain their educational, financial, and health goals.
In these trying times, it is more important than ever for us to continue fighting for the most vulnerable in our community. The health, safety and well-being of our families and team members are important to us. We have adjusted our services and are prepared to help our families through this highly unusual situation.
Santa Maria Community Services’ buildings are closed to the public, however we are considered an essential business and will continue to operate, but will do so differently.
We are going to families’ homes to drop off activity packets for parents to use with their children, diapers, and other important items. We are performing employment coaching on the phone, remotely running our High School Equivalency classes and offering utility and rent assistance for our families. We are taking the threat of COVID-19 very seriously. No employees or clients have tested positive for the virus (as of March 23, 2020), but we have taken these actions out of an abundance of caution to protect both our employees and our clients.
Santa Maria is taking the following steps to continue safely serving the community:
- All group gatherings, tutoring, classes and events have been canceled or postponed including our annual fundraiser, The Sharing Table, which will be rescheduled late summer or fall – more to come.
- All of our employees will be teleworking during the next two weeks and possibly beyond.
- Access to our sites is restricted solely to staff and deliveries.
- We have suspended doing home visits through Every Child Succeeds and Promoting our Preschoolers but can connect with and support these families by phone, text, video calls, and drop-offs at their homes.
