San Gabriel Partners with World Journal Los Angeles for
2025 Lunar Lantern Festival
We are thrilled to announce our partnership with World Journal Los Angeles to transform our annual Lunar New Year Festival into the Lunar Lantern Festival in 2025. With the support of World Journal Los Angeles and its sponsors, the City’s expenses will be significantly reduced from the initial $30,000 budget, covering only in-kind costs for staffing, equipment, marketing, and a welcome gathering for dignitaries.
Thanks to the generous contribution of lanterns from the Taiwan Tourism Administration, this event will become a spectacular celebration of culture. The Mission District will be adorned with vibrant, intricately crafted lanterns, creating an immersive experience reminiscent of Taiwan's renowned Lantern Festival.
The 2025 Lunar Lantern Festival will be a two-day extravaganza celebrating the Year of the Snake. It will be held on Saturday, February 1, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, February 2, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees can look forward to music and dance performances, street food vendors, marketplace booths, lantern-making, and more. Stay tuned for more details!

Tip, Toss and Protect Against Mosquitoes
As temperatures rise, so does the risk of mosquito-borne diseases like West Nile Virus. West Nile virus is the most common mosquito-borne disease affecting residents in Los Angeles County and the San Gabriel Valley.
The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District encourages residents to follow these tips to keep mosquitoes out of their yards:
- Tip out stagnant water. Just a bottle cap of water is all a mosquito needs to lay its eggs.
- Toss unused containers in the trash or store them in a dry area so they don’t collect water in the future.
- Protect yourself by applying insect repellent containing EPA-registered active ingredients, including DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, or IR3535. Always read label instructions.
Learn more about preventing the spread of mosquitoes at SGVMosquito.org.
