San Gabriel, Calif. (January 25, 2024) – The City of San Gabriel is thrilled to announce the Lunar Lantern Festival, a two-day-long extravaganza to celebrate the finale of Lunar New Year festivities. In partnership with KAZN, KMRB and Sino TV, the festival will take place on Saturday, February 17 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, February 18 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the historic Mission District.
Inspired by the renowned Lantern Festival of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and other Asian countries, San Gabriel’s Mission District will be adorned with lavish and ornate lanterns, symbolizing a fresh start to the new year. The festival will not only mark the first full moon of the lunar year but will also serve as the grand finale to Lunar New Year festivities for families and friends to gather and celebrate the beginning of spring.
The San Gabriel Lunar Lantern Festival will offer a tapestry of entertainment, traditional festivities, interactive experiences and delectable cuisines to create an unforgettable experience for the community. To usher in the auspicious Year of the Dragon, festivities will kick off with a traditional lion and dragon dance, followed by captivating music and dance performances by various community groups.
Attendees can marvel at illuminated lantern displays, including a lantern house filled with giant inflatable lanterns shaped like Chinese zodiac animals such as the dragon, pig and rabbit.
Kids can receive free lanterns while supplies last and enjoy many engaging activities, including carnival rides and games, a petting zoo, bounce houses, chalk art and pony rides.
Food enthusiasts can indulge in culinary Asian delights such as crepes, roasted chestnuts, popcorn chicken, noodles, barbeque meats, seafood skewers and irresistible desserts, all available for purchase from the hundreds of culinary and artisan market vendors that will be participating in the event.
Additionally, attendees can take part in a complimentary walking tour and learn about the rich history of the Mission District.
