Farm to School Night, Styrofoam Recycling Event, FREE Compost Drop Off, Membership Updates, & Swap 'N Drop Returns!

The SalemRecycles Mission is to reduce trash tonnage in the City of Salem by increasing recycling, diverting reusable items, and motivating city stakeholders through education and information.

Farm to School Night May 18th 6-8PM

Come learn about and celebrate the Farm to School work in Salem and surrounding communities!


Food Trucks will be featuring local snacks. Composting, recycling, science, nutrition, gardening and art activities for kids!


Styrofoam Recycling Event!

Residents of Salem and Beverly may recycle Styrofoam at the Community Life Center, 401 Bridge St., Salem

Saturday, June 24

10:00 AM - 1:00 PM


PLEASE BRING only white, rigid, expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) such as coolers and packing blocks. This will be a drive-through event.


WE CANNOT ACCEPT packing peanuts, soft foam, or food service containers such as meat trays, clamshells, or Styrofoam cups.



Save That Stuff will collect and recycle this material. While Styrofoam can't be recycled curbside, Save That Stuff has densifiers that can process the Styrofoam for recycling.

FREE Compost Drop-Off

  • Salem residents can drop off food waste and organics for FREE in brown paper bags or compostable bio bags. 
  • Please do not dump any yard waste, trash or recycling here. 
  • These bins are available 24/7 for you to drop off compost at your convenience, for free. Please see the map below to see the exact location at Mack Park.

Swap 'N Drop Returns!


We’re excited to announce the return of Swap ‘N’ Drop to Salem Common!


June 10 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm


This is a fun, free opportunity to swap or donate usable clothing and household items, keeping them from the waste stream.


SWAP or simply DROP OFF:

* Women’s, men’s, children’s clothing & accessories

* Small household items in good, working condition (no TVs or computers)

* All un-swapped items will be collected by ReSupply


PLEASE, NO damaged/unusable textiles at this event. Instead, recycle them via Helpsy or Bay State Textiles, or wait for our fall textile drive.
