The SalemRecycles Mission is to reduce trash tonnage in the City of Salem by increasing recycling, diverting reusable items, and motivating city stakeholders through education and information.

How many tons of waste & recycling did the City of Salem Produce in 2022?

  • Solid Waste (Waste Management)11,459.64 tons
  • Recycling (Waste Management) 3,585.56 tons
  • Yard Waste (Transfer station and WM) 1,712.42 tons
  • Textiles (Helpsy, Planet Aid, Baystate Textiles)176.54 tons
  • Food Waste (Black Earth Compost) 210 tons
  • E-Waste (RMG Enterprise) 37.63 tons


St. Patrick's Day - Go Green!

  • Reuse and make your own decorations.
  • Gift shamrock plants.
  • Make a green smoothie (spinach, banana, strawberry) Search online for more delicious recipes!)

March Book Swap!

The next Book Swap will be held at the Community Life Center

401 Bridge Street on Saturday, March 18th from 10am-1pm


Drop-off donations will take place:

Friday, March 17th from 4-7pm

Saturday, March 18th from 9am-12pm

Items that will be accepted for swapping: Books, greeting cards, puzzles, reusable bags, CD's, and DVD's.

The SalemRecycles' Committee is currently seeking THREE new members!


Are you passionate about reducing waste, recycling right, and helping the Salem community & planet?!


What is required?


  • Attend committee meetings1st Tuesday of each month @ 6:30PM
  • Ability to attend most of the Annual Events throughout the year.
  • Newsletter/content creation for social media.
  • Bring new ideas and initiatives!
