In large part due to the generous gifts of so many in our community to the All Saints Fund, we were able to make significant upgrades to our capital infrastructure late last school year and this summer. First, all of our exterior doors are now keyless with access only by key cards. This allows us to limit who has access, as well as access times. All students have these cards and can access the buildings between 7:30-3:15.
Second, and integrated with the key cards, we made a significant investment in a universal threat detection system. With this system, sounds that should not occur on a school campus (broken glass, explosion, gunshot) are immediately detected and rapid communication to 911 occurs simultaneously pinpointing the exact type of sound and location.
Thanks for leadership with both of these initiatives goes to Mike McClinton (Director of Facilities and Campus Safety) and Luke Vlaar (IT Director). As well, we have an excellent relationship with Eagle County Sheriff’s department and have two dedicated resource officers who serve our school as needed. Finally, faculty, staff, and students will receive ongoing training with campus safety along with drills to practice various scenarios.
Know that campus safety is a top VCHS priority. I’m grateful for all of the progress we’ve made over the last year and know that we will continue to invest and stay current with campus security best practices.
