VCHS Faculty Innovation Grant recipients for 2023 include:
Mrs. Carlson (Director of Christian Life, Theology/Fine Arts Teacher) will pursue a certificate in Narrative Focused Trauma Care from the Seattle School of Psychology and Theology. This training will give her tools to work with students and their families helping facilitate healing through engaging individual’s stories with courage, compassion, and skill.
Mrs. Juskaitis (English Teacher) will pursue a certificate in Restorative Practices for Educators through the International Institute for Restorative Practices. She has always been interested in conflict mediation between parties where two parties might need the support of a 3rd party to manage their differences. She will learn effective methods that will support VCHS in creating positive classroom and school culture, as well as helping to resolve relational challenges when they surface.
Mrs. Venz (Spanish Teacher) will spend the summer in Salamanca, Spain, immersed in Spanish culture and language. Central Connecticut State University is offering this 9 graduate credit program. Mrs. Venz looks forward to ‘walk in her students’ shoes’ as a Spanish student and innovate the creation and delivery of her curriculum. Because of this opportunity, her AP Spanish class will also be dual enrollment eligible.
Mrs. Verratti (English/Resource Teacher) will be taking a self-paced graduate course through the University of Michigan called – Leading Educational Innovation and Improvement. She’s excited to learn more about the emerging field of improvement science as it relates to educational innovation. She looks forward to sharing with the faculty new knowledge and evidence-based methods of educational innovation for school improvement.
