It’s Homecoming Week and an opportunity to remember our 500+ alumni spread out around the world. I’ve graduated over 200 of them since my arrival in 2016. I enjoy remembering our more recent graduates through the college pennants hung in Rohlwing Commons.
Each of those pennants represents our alumni currently in college. Upon college graduation, unless we have other recent alumni at the college, the pennant comes down and is stored away for future use. Just a few days ago, I was on a tall ladder removing pennants and putting up new ones. I moved the ladder from pennant to pennant thinking of graduates who not long ago walked our VCHS halls.
I reflected on happy memories and funny stories, and found myself deeply grateful for our alumni. In my mind, they never left our community, they simply left our physical nest. I can speak on behalf of our faculty who feel the same. Upon graduation, a Saint will always be a Saint and an important part of the VCHS family.
I want our students today to know whose shoulders they stand on and that they’re part of something much bigger than themselves. There’s a tapestry – Saints navy blue and white – that continues to be woven.
Go Saints!
