Hello Steve, Enjoy our Saints News!
HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

Tom Engleby and Davis Hermes were juniors when I began as Head of School at VCHS. Two years later, they graduated with the Class of 2018 having distinguished themselves as young men. Tom recently graduated from the Air Force Academy. Davis did the same from University of Colorado, Boulder. They’ve taken different paths, but they share a trait that we admire in our Saints – Growth – an openness to meeting new opportunities and challenges.

Tom recently shared advice with today’s VCHS students – to have lofty goals and high expectations for themselves. He said, “Pursue those goals as hard as you can and don’t give up.” Tom has now positioned himself to attend pilot training in 2024 as he is preparing to become a fighter pilot with the United States Air Force.

Davis is also pursuing ambitious goals with slacklining – Vail man slacklines between two hot air balloons in Brazil. In meeting new challenges, Davis said, “I saw that (slacklining between two hot air balloons) and I knew that I wanted to try it. I knew the resources and the proper person to reach out to in order to make something like that happen. Not that it’s easy, but since it’s been done before it’s not like there’s the question of ‘is this even possible?’”

Displaying resilience, even in the face of failure, Tom and Davis exemplify the Portrait of a Graduate. Congratulations Tom and Davis. We're Proud to call you Saints!
