Insurance Update
Sail Canada has been vigorously working with Gallagher Insurance to meet the needs of those covered under the policy. As we all know, the Officials fall under the D and O part of the policy, and it is secondary liability insurance only, and does not cover personal liability. It is important to note that when you are operating a boat, it is the boat’s insurance that would cover an incident on the water.
We are working on an education piece to inform clubs of their responsibilities with respect to providing proper coverage for officials while at events.
In the meantime, we did receive confirmation that the Sail Canada coverage is only applicable while you are in Canada. Gallagher is looking into personal liability coverage that maybe available to officials who wish to opt-in and pay a modest premium. More to follow, as Brent from Gallagher and his team have been meeting with Sail Canada staff regularly.
We should all be thankful that the team at Sail Canada is working hard to meet our insurance needs.
