Safety Tips for
Fall
Camping
Trips!
Carbon Monoxide - a silent killer
The U.S.
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns consumers that each
year there are about 30 deaths and 450 injuries because of carbon
monoxide poisoning from the use of portable camping heaters,
lanterns, or stoves inside tents, campers, and
vehicles.
Although a
carbon monoxide detector / alarm comes standard in new Coleman Camping Trailers, we would like to
urge you to take a few precautions to protect yourself and others
from the effects of carbon monoxide. The colorless, odorless and
tasteless gas is a by-product of fossil fuels (gasoline, liquid
propane, diesel fuel, etc.) and it is deadly.
Do not cook indoors without a ventilation
source. Open a window or door to allow fresh air
into the camping trailer.
Do not use
portable heaters or lanterns while sleeping in the camping
trailer.
Test your carbon monoxide
detector/alarm. To conduct a reset/test procedure,
push the test button until a short beep is heard (approximately 3
seconds). Release the button. The alarm will then test itself for
proper operation and the red LED will flash four to six times. At
the completion of the self-test, the alarm will sound two patterns
and resume normal operation.
Do not block exhaust
ports, or situate the vehicle in a place where the
exhaust gases can accumulate.
Do not modify or alter the
propane plumbing system.
CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR /
ALARM
A carbon monoxide detector /
alarm is installed in all new Coleman Camping Trailers built. The
design of the alarm is such that it draws its power from the
trailer's 12-volt system. The alarm also includes a replaceable
9-volt alkaline backup battery which will power the alarm when the
trailer battery is disconnected. The detector will beep and the
indicator/test button will flash once every 30 seconds if a fault
is detected. This is an indication of a malfunction and that the
detector requires immediate servicing.
BEWARE OF
CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING
SYMPTOMS:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Weakness
- Sleepiness
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Muscular twitching
- Throbbing in temples
- Inability to think
coherently
If you or others
experience any of these symptoms, get out into the fresh air
immediately. If symptoms persist, seek medical
attention. Shut down the folding trailer and do not operate unit
until it has been inspected or repaired.

Steer Clear of Wet
Leaves!
Wet
leaves on roadways creates a serious driving hazard.
 |
Inevitably, the beauty of autumn foliage
transforms into a serious driving hazard when the leaves begin to
fall. Leaves not only cover lines and markings on the road making
it difficult to navigate, but when wet they create slippery driving
conditions. To avoid an accident use extreme caution when traveling
through wooded areas and adjust your driving
accordingly.

Be Prepared.
Pack a First Aid Kit.
Whether you're camping,
hiking, biking, or just spending time outdoors, it pays to be ready
for the unexpected. Be sure to keep a first aid kit on hand and
check it regularly to make sure nothing has expired and that you
aren't out of any commonly used items.
Essential items
to stock in your first aid kit include:
 Bandages
(preferably waterproof)
 Antibiotic
Ointment
 Antiseptic
Towelettes
 Tweezers
 Scissors
 An Antihistamine
 A Cold
Pack
When you purchase a first
aid kit, it's a good idea to open it up when you get home and add
any items that you know your family might need. For example, if
your son is allergic to bee stings it's not a bad idea to carry an
extra EpiPen along in your kit. Some other great additions to any
first aid kit include a small bottle of insect repellent, like the
Coleman Repellents Go Ready™ 0.5 oz. spray pens (www.colemanrepellents.com) and
a bottle of StingEze Insect Bite Relief (www.StingEze.com).
