Letter from the Director - David Elkins

Safe Harbor family,

Well once again a change of season is upon us, probably my favorite. The fall colors and temperatures are just so enjoyable. With it comes an overwhelming desire to spend time with Jesus outside, on the porch reading His word, walking through the mountains talking with Him or just walking the grounds praying to Him.

For sure, exciting times at Safe Harbor Jefferson County. Construction has begun on our new residential cottages. The whole landscape is transforming before our very eyes into a community where God can be 1st. What a challenge in an ever-demanding world to depend on God for our tomorrow and trust him for your today. As I watched the landscapes transform from our humble beginnings just five short years ago, it's amazing to see God work. But more important than buildings being constructed is the work He is doing in the lives of the men at Safe Harbor. I continue to ask myself continuously how do I help these men know and depend on a Holy God? Most definitely the key to success is knowing and depending on God!

Often, I challenge our men to search and discover why God created them and ask them if they could imagine spending their whole life and never know the purpose of why God created you? Definitely the pursuit of anyone's life should be to seek out why God created them. Why did he gift me with the talents that I have, the personality that I project, the desires I have. Remember He formed us in our mother’s womb.

Just a little glimpse of my heart.

Thanks for all the support and prayers. Remember it is God’s plan for us to work in community to achieve His will in the men at Safe Harbor so if you’re not involved come be apart of what He is doing here at Safe Harbor.

 To God be the Glory!

Client of the Quarter

"This is what GOD did for me.

At a very young age my life was in a very unstable family. The family that was involved in my life were drunks, so you can see there was no positive influence in my life. I had my first drink by age 12 yrs old and it got worse from there. At age 15 I was introduced to marijuana and that opened a flood gate to harder drugs with criminal behavior.

In 2008 was my first arrest, after about a year of freedom came pills and I really liked them. Now was the time of my great downfall. In and out of jail till I needed to do big boy time. I would do whatever it took to feed my habit. My habit landed me a 10 yr prison sentence. I ended up blessed with that instead of cursed. GOD found me right at the very bottom of my pit.

It started with a young man telling me that I needed say I was sorry to some people of my past. That began with me apologizing to GOD and telling HIM how sorry I was for sinning against Him. That was just the start, then came letters to my ex, and so many people I wronged, lead astray, or took money from wrongly. My life with GOD changed everything about me, the way I talked, thought and acted. GOD was my new life. Waking in the morning to read and study the Bible, to work group discussions about GOD, to the evening group talk, learn and study GOD's word.

Coming to Safe Harbor Jefferson County at a friends advice was the best course of action I could have ever made. My faith relationship has grown and prospered abundantly since coming to Safe Harbor, where people I knew from prison are here with me. I have a job that has given me new meaning to earning money instead of robbing for it, while no watching over my shoulder for the police to show up. The only one showing up in my life now is GOD and HIS Blessings. Now I can look forward to what tomorrow holds, because I know my tomorrow is in GOD's hands."

Faith Elevated!

Partner of the Quarter - Gatlinburg Inn & Hampton Inn

Safe Harbor of Jefferson County would like to award our Partner(s) of the Quarter to Gatlinburg Inn and Hampton Inn.

We generally award only one per quarter however two seemed absolutely necessary.  These two came on board with us roughly the same time early last year. We employ many people in their hospitality positions available. Some of our employees have onboarded and became permanent employees of their hotels.

Special thanks to Lori at Hampton Inn and Gary at Gatlinburg Inn for treating our employees just like family. We are hoping many more years of partnership.
