Sumner Association of Neighbors is open to ALL persons living or working within our boundaries and exists to foster a sense of community and to enhance the quality of life for all individuals who live, work and play here. SAN is a non-profit organization devoted to the physical and social livability of the Sumner Neighborhood and to provide an open process by which all members of the neighborhood may involve themselves in the affairs of the neighborhood. We provide opportunities for community involvement, promote local businesses, and advocate for issues of community concern.

Sumner Association of Neighbors (SAN)
Next Scheduled
General Community Meeting
*Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 7:00 pm on Zoom
Click here to Join the SAN Meeting:
Meeting ID: 830 2552 9437 / Passcode: 785389
Guest, Roger Gonzalez with Prosper Portland to talk about the proposed Parkrose-Columbia Corridor TIF to be approved by city council this fall. The name Sumner is not in the headline, so we may have been an after thought to gain additional taxes for projects not in Sumner. A TIF is a program that allocates future increases in property taxes from a designated area or TIF District to pay for improvements in that area. It is a goal to allow developers and local governments to collaborate in the redevelopment of blighted, old or abandoned properties into renewed, virbrant neighborhoods and other kinds of projects.
This is a meeting everyone needs to attend. We have a great community in Sumner. This TIF could change it.

Welcome to all our neighbors in Sumner!
|
|
The Board would like to thank everyone that has been a part of our events as a volunteer or attending our events. We enjoy when we hold events that bring everyone together and allow us to meet and get reacquainted.
There is so much going on with the City of Portland and neighborhood coalitions transiting from 7 coalitions to 4. We will be the only neighborhood continuing with Central Northeast Neighbors. The other neighborhoods we were formerly with will be going to District 2 and District 3. Our new neighbors will include Argay Terrace, Centennial, Lents, Parkrose Heights, Parkrose, Powell-Hurst Gilbert, Russell, Glenfair, Wilkes, and Woodland Park.
Where does Sumner stand and what does it mean for us? Since we will continue with Central Northeast Neighbors (CNN), our Executive Director will still be Alison Stoll and Ronda Johnson will remain as Equity Outreach Manager. Looking forward to meeting our new neighbors, hearing about their neighborhoods and how we can all work together and have fun!
A big thank you to all those that report and continue to report the homeless camps. We are told that we need to report, report, report. The posted School Zone signs on NE Emerson do seem to be helping.

Community & Civic Engagement
Small Grants!
We are excited to announce Central Northeast Neighbors 2024 Small Grant applied for and received a Small Grant of $3,000. We applied for the funding to help with our annual neighborhood cleanup with some funds also going to the Parade/Ice Cream Social. We felt it was important to dedicate these funds to events for everyone living/working in the Sumner neighborhood.

In Memoriam
Hard to believe that last year, long time neighbor and member of Sumner Association of Neighbors, Henry Shannon passed away. He and his wife, Janet, were on the SAN Board for several years, always willing to help with our Annual Neighborhood Cleanups, Neighbors Night Out and litter patrol. Thank you to Janet for continuing to be a volunteer for our neighborhood to which we are very grateful.
