STEM Club Updates

Guest Speaker

On Thursday, May 2, the STEM Club is hosting a virtual guest speaker! Dr. Karen Greco is a retired adult nurse practitioner with a specialty in cancer genetics/genomics. In her talk, "My Unexpected Nursing Journey: Five Lives and Many Letters," she will share her journey through various careers in nursing and discuss options in the field. Her presentation will be from 3:15-4:30 p.m. in Room 25. It is open to all JA and high school students, faculty, and staff. If you have any questions, contact Dr. Jennifer Greco at jgreco@toledosua.org.

Space Technology Challenge

Last week, the SUA STEM Club won the Best in Show award in the Space Station Technology Challenge! The girls took a training course to learn about the International Space Station, then they designed and presented a new technology that could improve life for astronauts on the International Space Station. Our Arrows proposed new ways of growing plants to create space-efficient indoor gardens on the International Space Station.

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we will come together as a school community on Thursday, May 2, to participate in activities supporting positive mental health. These activities will include a short walk around our school grounds and other mindfulness activities. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will also provide resources for our students. On Thursday, students are permitted to wear tennis shoes.

The brunch will take place on Wednesday, May 15, before May Crowning in the South Dining Commons. The waffles will be made in the Life Skills Room next to the Teacher's Lounge.

This event requires the effort of many parents, so please consider helping our seniors experience a long-standing SUA tradition as their days at SUA come to a close.
