STRIDE at SunTrax during Plugfest, Tests Algorithm that Reduces Vehicles' Time at Traffic Signals & Improves Pedestrian Safety


Researchers from the University of Florida Transportation Institute’s (UFTI) I-STREET Living Lab traveled to the SunTrax Test Facility in Auburndale, Fla., to test a novel algorithm, funded in part by the STRIDE Center, that optimizes and operates traffic signals, thus improving safety and traffic performance at intersections.

Matteo Saracco of the Georgia Institute of Technology was the STRIDE Center's Student of the Year. Saracco was honored in January 2023 at an awards banquet with the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) and the U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C. Congratulations!

Available from STRIDE: Transportation Engineering Design Activity Booklet for 5th to 12th Graders


Dr. Dimitra Michalaka of The Citadel and Ondine Wells of the STRIDE Center developed a booklet containing three activities focused on designing streets, curb management, and an app. The activities were created to teach students the concept of making school zones safer. The booklet was funded by STRIDE and is available for download.

Check Out STRIDE's K-12 Moon Lander Activity Box


The Moon Lander Activity is focused on teaching elementary school children about transportation engineering using the engineering design process to create a moon lander. This activity has been adapted from the NASA/Design Squad's Challenge Touchdown/PBS Kids. The activity was designed by Ondine Wells, STRIDE's former K-12/Workforce Development Coordinator.
