Get Out of Your Way!
Successful weight loss depends on lifestyle changes. Isn’t that scary? Change always seems so threatening—“change is bad”… we’re in a Comfort Zone and believe “lifestyle change” is frightening.
Nope! It’s a special feeling you can't understand until you experience it! From the time you wake up in the morning, you feel positive … really! It’s like you’ve already started the day doing something good for yourself.
What is your motivation for undertaking these changes? Maybe it's better health. Think about it--we've just experienced the biggest health scare in our lives making us all more aware of how important being healthy really is.
On a lighter note, maybe you’re wanting to start losing for summer. Think you have too much weight to lose in time? Self-sabotaging! See, you may be a Member who isn’t close to goal yet, but by summer you could lose 15-30 pounds --or more! Members may lose more on their first week. How will you feel? How will you look? How positive will your Mindset be?
Putting off getting started because you have time to lose just 20 or 30 pounds? Well, there’s that health thing! Can you believe you can put on 30 pounds really quickly—you could do it in three months (according to Yale Medicine). Many people gained that and more in 2020, and unfortunately are still carrying that weight.
Find your motivation and focus on it. Then know we are here EVERY DAY. Virtually, In-Person in Our WW Studios, even on digital tools.

Get a positive attitude about losing weight! You might not think you're ready but are we ever ready for any change in the habits we've developed in our lives? 🤨 Change is inevitable! So be proactive.
If you dread what lies ahead, you might be more likely to find excuses--i.e. self-sabotage, to go off course.
Embrace the vision of your new lifestyle! Focus on how good you'll look and feel! You'll be more active! You'll weigh less. Picture yourself celebrating every success along the way!

A diet can be difficult. Everyone has moments of temptation. Going it alone, you may feel disheartened. And that's that! Bring on the M&Ms! Diet = No M&Ms. Eat M&Ms, you're off the diet and there you have it--again, self-sabotage.
Having people in your corner who have been, or are, where you are now to offer encouragement is simply awesome. Let your friends and loved ones (the ones you know you can rely on) know you're getting healthy and look for encouragement. It helps!

Let’s cut to the chase
Sometimes things just don’t go the way you want them to. Does that stink? Sure! Is there a way to make changes and course correct for next time? You bet!

Imagine there’s a recording of that situation you were in that you didn’t love. Rewind it in your mind. Make note of what you’re doing, what’s going on around you, and even what you’re thinking.

Spot any moments that might’ve contributed to your challenge, the ones where you wish you could stop the tape and change what you did or how you acted.

Pick just one thing to tweak and re-record. What did you shift?

Press play on your new video. Did your outcome ultimately change? PinPoint what led to your success so you can repeat it.

Hello WW Philadelphia Members,
So, what is the hardest part of weight loss and maintenance? Patience and grace to self.
The PersonalPoints program allows and encourages every food in the universe. Certainly not the mentality I had the first time I joined Weight Watchers. I came in extremely focused on losing pounds and not thinking about changing habits and learning lessons that would serve me for the rest of my life.
I lost 11 pounds upon completing my first week. That was because I followed the program to the letter instead of allowing my life to teach me to follow the program the way I would need to live it.
Somewhere along the journey of my weight loss, my Leader said, “What do you attribute your steady weight loss to?” I answered with the list of foods I had given up, instead of how I had learned to work them in. He wisely asked if those foods were something I wanted to GIVE up for the rest of my life. I was unable to answer him at that moment, but the truth is, I WAS NEVER GOING TO GIVE UP ANY FOOD PERMANENTLY. Except for licorice. I really dislike licorice, so I can easily never eat it and it can be the one lonely item on my “never eat” list.
As the only person in my family who is calorically challenged (that’s what I call being overweight), it really did seem to sneak up on me one day in early adulthood. Did I wake up one day nearly 100 pounds over my healthy weight? NO, becoming overweight didn’t happen because of my birthdays, holidays, vacations,or any other short-term time of food indulgences. It happens consistently day after day, week after week, eating more food than your body needs.
WW Members are much smarter today and include all their favorite foods. Tracking what we eat is still vitally important and some Members truly get in touch with the sense of “just satisfied” and learn to stop eating when they feel that moment. For me, if I don’t track breakfast, I eat it again before lunch. It is a symptom of my food amnesia, a fake disease I made up.
Recognizing our food Frankensteins (your hardest to control foods) and knowing when, where, and even with whom you can enjoy them, is a lesson worth tens of pounds of success. A few years ago, for my birthday weekend, darling husband and I went to Las Vegas. We ate in three of the top restaurants on the strip. I enjoyed every morsel, all served in proper portions, and never felt so satisfied in my life with what I had eaten, how it tasted, and what it looked like. Every plate was an Instagram moment with beautiful adult beverage accompaniments. Even including beyond divine desserts at two meals, I ate remarkably close to the same calories/Points I would have at home, but with a lot more walking in-between, and came home having maintained my weight!
Plan your weekly success deciding in advance if this is a weight loss or a maintenance week. My plan usually has to do with what is going on in life. Acknowledging ahead of time extra work, special events or stressful situations.
Aim for progress, not perfection. What takes one Member six months to do takes another 2 years or more. In many ways, losing weight has a lot of similarities to the old saying “get back in the saddle” and as a life-long equestrian and 31+ year WW Member, I will tell you there is no place better than riding high in that saddle.
Make this week amazing in a way that works for your life.
