The annual Property Management Forum held at the Realtors® Legislative Meetings in Washington, D.C., brought together industry leaders, members of local and state associations of Realtors®, federal advocacy organizations, and professionals from across the property management spectrum to discuss pressing issues facing the sector.

New Jersey Court Rules in Support of Independent Contractors in Worker Classification Case

This week, the New Jersey Supreme Court unanimously ruled in the case Kennedy v. Weichert(link is external)

 that independent contractor agreements entered by real estate brokers and salespersons are enforceable under New Jersey law, and that independent contractors are not subject to New Jersey’s Wage Payment Law, and that the independent contractor agreements are dispositive of a salesperson’s classification status under the New Jersey Broker’s Act.

Financial Readiness Among School-Aged Children and Young Adults

NAR has a history of promoting financial education for homeownership. Research supports early financial education, as it helps young people become financially secure adults. NAR encourages REALTORS and state and local REALTOR associations to collaborate with financial education providers, schools, and community organizations for age-appropriate activities. U.S. Supreme Court Determines CFPB Funding Structure Is Constitutional

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau v. Community Financial Services Association of America(link is external) ruled in a 7-2 decision that the current funding structure for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is constitutional. Learn more.
