Regional Measure 3 (RM3) Funded Projects – I-80/I-680/SR 12 Interchange

The STA Board approved a request to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) for Regional Measure 3 funding to fund the design phase for Package 5 of the I-80/I-680/SR 12 Interchange project, which addresses local circulation around the interchange. This package will construct the SR 12 (West)/Red Top Road/Business Center Drive interchange by extending Business Center Drive across SR 12 to connect with a realigned Red Top Road at the existing I-80/Red Top interchange. These improvements will complete local roadway improvements to create a parallel arterial between I-80/Red Top Road east to I-80/Abernathy Road and improve local circulation.

Solano County & Safe Routes to School (SR2S) celebrate International Walk to School Day 2023

Safe Routes to School celebrated the 26th annual International Walk to School Day on October 4th with unprecedented success. A record-breaking 50 schools participated in the event, accompanied by the presence of five local elected officials, who attended a school event in their local community, making this year's celebration a memorable one.

International Walk to School Day, an annual event held on the first Wednesday of October, is a global initiative aimed at promoting physical activity, community engagement, and a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of daily commutes. The event encourages students, parents, teachers, and community members to choose sustainable modes of transportation, such as walking or biking, for their journey to school.

STA awards SR2S Public Safety Education & Enforcement Grants to Benicia & Suisun City

The STA Board awarded the Benicia Police Department and Suisun Police Department with $75,000 in funds as part of the Safe Routes to School’s (SR2S) Public Safety Education and Enforcement Grant. The main goal for the grant is to develop strategies that deter unsafe behaviors of drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists, and to encourage all road users to obey traffic laws and share the road safely. Each police department will have a dedicated staff member to assist schools within their community.

Regional Traffic Impact Fee (RTIF) Nexus Study Adds Eligible Projects

The STA and the County of Solano coordinate with all seven cities in Solano County on the collection and management of the Regional Transportation Impact Fee (RTIF), a transportation component of the County’s Public Facilities Fee (PFF). Recently, STA worked with a consultant to update the nexus study and are recommending a list of 15 projects that are eligible to receive future RTIF funds. At the October 11th STA Board meeting, the Board approved the release of the list of 15 projects for a 30-day review and comment period.

Clean California Project Begins on Highway 12 in Suisun City

Caltrans’s Clean California Project is a statewide initiative to remove litter, create jobs, and beautify roadways on-and-off the State highway system in California. The cities of Fairfield and Suisun City received a Clean CA grant in 2021 and are working to complete the landscaping improvement projects on SR12 right-of-way within their respective jurisdictions.

Suisun City began construction in July 2023 and to-date has completed irrigation and planting of oleanders on the median of SR12 from Marina Boulevard to Walters Road, as well as irrigation and planting of shrubs and trees on the triangular area of SR12/Civic Center on and off ramps. The City of Fairfield will start construction on its part of the project later this year and anticipates construction to last 100 working days.

Solano Mobility Express Vanpool & First/Last Mile Expansion from Vacaville/Dixon in Sacramento

The Solano Mobility Express Vanpool Program was launched on August 7th to complement the Solano Express Blue Line, which no longer travels to Sacramento. Through September, the program has provided 585 rides between Vacaville, Dixon, and Sacramento, with a total of 17 riders signed up for the program. At the October 11th Board meeting, the STA Board approved staff’s recommendation to expand the First/Last Mile Commuter Program to provide connections between downtown Sacramento employers and Solano Mobility Express vanpool stops in Sacramento.
