START-EMBER
What are you ready to begin?
OK, maybe not "ready" but ready to get ready?!
There is only one way to make that happen...
Start-ember a plan at the top of September that will permit you to embark upon 30 initiatives or mini-steps. Each initiative needs to be directly linked to a goal or bigger plan and should be included each day in your overall to-do check lists. If you take one new action step each day toward a bigger goal or idea, it creates a more manageable and productive transition between summer and fall.
In October, what do you want to be able to say you changed or impacted? September is your direct route to that answer.
Here are 3 ways to simply START.
Let go of waiting energy. It is a trap. If you find yourself waiting for your kids not to need you, waiting for the pandemic to end and re-assort itself, waiting for enough money or time, waiting for your website to be done or re-done, or waiting for (fill in the blank) then you are not doing. You can’t wait and do at the same time and waiting for things to be perfect holds everything back. Instead START.
Begin with what you can do and get to do now. Maybe you are researching a new business, taking a class, or shadowing someone who is doing what you think is fascinating. All of these things involve action steps that must be allocated and acted upon every day.
Start-ember now. Don’t wait. Do.
Find something new in something old. Summer is often an auto-pilot season, so make fall your opportune time to commit to change. If even half of your 30 September initiatives and action steps involve doing something differently, you will organically choose and create change. One of the simplest ways to initiate transitions is to find a new or previously untapped idea within something you are already doing. This is a great self-leadership hack that permits you to hold onto something you know and maybe even love doing, while infusing new life into it.
To start, you don’t have to change everything, yet you need to change something. What does that look like within your business? What needs to shift within existing relationships? Choosing to update how you do things, updates how you do things! Begin. Explore.
Create a Start-ember goal basket. Make use of a basket or bowl that you already have in your home and fill it with a myriad of ideas and action steps. Create a basket for each goal that is important to you now. Then on small pieces of paper write down 30 different ideas that get you closer to that goal. Throw them into your goal baskets. Every day pick one piece of paper out of each basket and include that step in your daily plan. At the end of each week in September recap your wins and document what worked. Celebrate your successes and adjust your remaining steps accordingly. If something did not work as well, honestly evaluate it. Does your goal need to be tweaked? Was the action step too heavy a lift? Use the month of September to fine-tune and shift perspectives so that you set up a fall season that works for you and with you. Start-ember!
