SSMMA Outreach Coordinator Interview Featured on Brave Dialogue
As a south suburban native, Victoria Nicholson Marshall started working with SSMMA as the Census Outreach Coordinator for the 2020 Census in order to reach undercounted communities and ensure local municipalities would receive adequate federal funding for each resident.

After the census concluded, Victoria was able to continue working with SSMMA as a liaison to south suburban organizations and community groups to help municipalities directly understand the needs of residents, learn what’s happening in their communities, improve their outreach efforts, and reach out to historically overlooked groups with opportunities or program information that could provide residents with useful resources.

"During the pandemic, without us having someone assigned to be on the ground in these communities and connecting with local mayors and managers we would not have been able to implement some of the strategies that helped us count residents during a time where the entire state of Illinois was reliant on virtual outreach to count residents.

We have to continue to make progress and we knew there was still a need for someone to do the groundwork in these communities which is how my current role developed."

Jeffery Cohn, the host of Brave Dialogue, uses his platform to highlight various leaders in the south suburbs in hopes of informing residents about the work being done throughout the Southland.

The interview can be viewed on Comcast channel 19 until June 25th. To learn more about Victoria and her work with SSMMA access the interview here.
