SPRC’s recently released Recommendations for State Suicide Prevention Infrastructure (Infrastructure Recommendations) lays out essential infrastructure elements for advancing state suicide prevention efforts. State Infrastructure Tools

SPRC has developed a series of new tools to help states implement the essential elements of the Infrastructure Recommendations:

Essential Elements Assessment Tool. This worksheet can help you identify which of the essential elements your state currently has in place, and which are missing from your state’s suicide prevention infrastructure.

Getting Started Guide. This resource is designed to help states with little suicide prevention infrastructure put in place the Authorize, Lead, and Partner essential elements of the Infrastructure Recommendations.

Timeline Development Worksheet. This worksheet is designed to help you develop a timeline for each phase of your state’s infrastructure development.

State Suicide Prevention Coordinator Position Descriptions. This packet contains real-life examples from three U.S. states that can be used by any state to guide the content of position descriptions for new or existing state suicide prevention coordinators.

State Infrastructure Success Stories

The State Infrastructure Success Stories highlight real-life examples of states that have built infrastructure essential for advancing suicide prevention.

Tennessee’s Statewide Suicide Prevention Network. This success story describes how organizations, councils, and teams implementing suicide prevention efforts at the state, regional, and local levels work together to ensure effective participation across Tennessee.

Utah’s Multifaceted Suicide Prevention Program. This success story summarizes the many aspects of Utah’s suicide prevention efforts, including its coalitions and work groups, state plan, and funding, which work together to ensure a sustainable program that reaches high-risk groups across the lifespan and the state.

In Case You Missed It...

Creating a Stronger Data Infrastructure for Suicide Prevention. SPRC hosted a webinar on February 25 focused on Data Infrastructure: Recommendations for State Suicide Prevention, a newly released supplement to the Infrastructure Recommendations. Participants learned about six concrete recommendations for creating infrastructure to support data-driven decision-making in suicide prevention. Presenters from Colorado and Texas shared examples of their states' data infrastructure. The webinar recording and slides are now available.

AAS20 Preconference Workshop: Using State Plans to Promote and Evaluate Statewide Suicide Prevention Efforts

April 22, 2020, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. PT

SPRC’s Infrastructure Recommendations lists six essential elements to establish strong and sustainable state suicide prevention infrastructure. These evidence-informed elements also underscore the importance of maintaining state prevention plans that are updated every three to five years.

This in-person workshop, convened by SPRC’s State and Grantee Initiatives Team, will provide timely guidance and support to state leaders on enhancing their suicide prevention infrastructure. It will address the core functions of state suicide prevention plans by walking participants through the practice of strategic planning, setting actionable goals and objectives, ensuring equitable representation, and using a state’s suicide-related data to inform plan implementation. The workshop will occur on Wednesday, April 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT at the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) Conference in Portland, Oregon.
