Emergency Preparedness Month
Emergencies can happen at any time, so advance preparation and constant vigilance are critical to ensure you and your family are ready to respond. Developing a emergency response plan and practicing it with everyone keeps you and your family on the same page when it comes to an emergency. Below are some tips that can help you create an emergency action plan:
- Create an established meeting spot in case you have to evacuate your home.
- Ensure your address is visible and easy for emergency responders to find.
- Keep alarms and detectors up to date with batteries.
- Have a layout of evacuation routes in your home including primary exits (doors) and secondary exits (windows). Ensure at least 1 exit in your home is easily accessible.
- Make sure to have a supply kit ready (water, non-perishable food, can opener, first aid kit, flashlights, batteries, important documents, etc).
