PASTOR PAUL WILL NEVER ASK YOU TO BUY SOMETHING FOR HIM!

A couple people at SPC have received emails claiming to be Pastor Paul (or Rev. Paul) and trying to scam them out of money! They are impersonating Pastor Paul. That means his email account has not been hacked, but instead, someone has made their "name" appear as Rev. Paul Mowry.

The emails pose as Pastor Paul and will ask you to help him out bybuying a gift card or something from Amazon!

BE CAREFUL! LOOK CLOSELY! The actual email ADDRESS is NOT Pastor Paul's. Sometimes there is a small letter (like a lowercase "i") snuck into the middle of his name.

THE EASY WAY NOT TO GET SCAMMED: NEVER EVER buy something like a gift card, or anything that matter, based on an email!

DID YOU KNOW... If you suspect someone's email account has been hacked (that is, someone has broken into the account and is using it; versus impersonating), DO NOT EMAIL! The hackers will see your email. CALL SOMEONE IF YOU THINK THEY'VE BEEN HACKED!

Hymn # 307 – God of Grace and God of Glory

God of grace and God of glory,

on thy people pour thy power;

crown thine ancient Church’s story;

bring its bud to glorious flower.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,

for the facing of this hour,

for the facing of this hour.

Cure thy children’s warring madness;

bend our pride to thy control;

shame our wanton, selfish gladness,

rich in things and poor in soul.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,

lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal,

lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal.

Writing of Our Prayers

Send your prayers in the chat room. Prayers will be prayed by the Prayer Group.

Readings – Elder Barbara Kerr

Acts 2:1-8, 12-18 (NRSV)

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, ‘Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language?

All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, ‘What does this mean?’ But others sneered and said, ‘They are filled with new wine.’

But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: ‘Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:

“In the last days it will be, God declares,

that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh,

  and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

and your young men shall see visions,

  and your old men shall dream dreams.

Even upon my slaves, both men and women,

  in those days I will pour out my Spirit;

   and they shall prophesy.

Sweet Prospect by Bob Chilcott

Britisher Bob Chilcott (b. 1955) is one of the world’s premier and most widely performed choral composers. The inspiration, scope and skill of his output are extraordinary. Sweet Prospect is an exuberant choral romp of 18th-century Baptist minister and hymn writer Samuel Stennett’s On Jordan’s Stormy Banks.

On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand,

and cast a wishful eye

to Canaan’s fair and happy land,

where my possessions lie.

I am bound for the promised land . . .

Hymn # 301 – Let Us Build a House (All Are Welcome)

Let us build a house where love can dwell

and all can safely live,

a place where saints and children tell

how hearts learn to forgive.

Built of hopes and dreams and visions,

rock of faith and vault of grace;

here the love of Christ shall end divisions:

all are welcome; all are welcome;

all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where all are named,

their songs and visions heard

and loved and treasured, taught and claimed

as words within the Word.

Built of tears and cries and laughter,

prayers of faith and songs of grace,

let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:

all are welcome, all are welcome,

all are welcome in this place.
