Last week we were excited to launch the inaugural Sponsor-a-Horse fundraiser, benefiting the Seattle Police Department’s iconic Mounted Patrol Unit.
SPD’s Mounted Patrol Unit is one of the few remaining mounted units in the Pacific Northwest and is a treasured part of the Seattle community for residents and visitors alike. These highly-trained police horses help officers travel where patrol cars cannot go, while illuminating police presence and serving as a conduit for positive interactions between Seattle police officers and the community they serve.
The MPU is a community-building powerhouse, breaking down barriers and sparking important relationships, all while improving public safety.
The Seattle Police Foundation and its donors demonstrated their commitment to this cherished Unit during our Save our Horses initiative of 2011, which funded the Unit through 2014. Now, nearly a decade later, it’s time to rekindle that support.
