Greetings!
We hope that you have cleared off that last bit of snow, and are easing into 2011. This year has been hard to start, but SPARK is back in the saddle providing you with the programs and leadership you can count on! This month's update is filled with a report back from the FYRE Media Camp, Save the Date for the 4th Annual Legislate THIS! Day of Action, SPARK in the news, community events, and more. On top of all the programming goodness, SPARK has moved into a gorgeous new home in the historic Kirkwood neighborhood and we have been nestling and creating a wonderful space to house our work. We can't wait to invite you to our housewarming this Spring!
SPARK is amplifying and supporting the brilliance that already exisits in the dynamic leadership of LGBTQ youth of color, young women of color, families, women who are incarcerated, and folks living and loving in the South. We are committed to building a movement by and for us, and your support is vital.
Please consider making a donation to continue to make our work possible.
For reproductive justice,
SPARK

After being mountain high, what's next for this crew; the FYRE Media Crew has already started meeting to plan next steps for our big Atlanta/Georgia screenings, distribution, LGBTQ Youth Summit and community conversations!

SAVE THE DATE!
4th Annual Day of Action
March 1 2011

Tonya and the Legislate THIS! crew have been working since September to bring Georgia a day of action to remember. With a super majority of conservatives who have been taking bold actions to legislate our bodies, gender, and sexualities, we are responding to our communities needs by not only monitoring and working to defeat dangerous legislation, but also introducing proactive legislation(Giving Birth in Dignity and Safety Bill) and creating resources and tools to educate and prepare our members. This year we will be watching for the reintroduction of the Race and Sex selection bill. We have been working together with Black and South Asian women to center our lived experience in this racist and sexist legislation. We are prepared to see Georgia lead the nation on birthright citizenship legislation(stripping US citizenship of newborns born to women who are not US citizens) and, we are organizing with immigrant rights activists to best respond to this threat. We are continuing our push to be the first state in the South to ban the inhumane practice of shackling incarcerated pregnant women during labor, transport, and delivery. We believe our Giving Birth with Dignity and Safety bill will get introduced this year. The threats are real and our we are responding by people a community centered movement where public policy reflects our lives.
