Gloucester 400+ initiative combines history, environmental stewardship, experiential education and community engagement

As part of Gloucester’s quadricentennial, Peter Lawrence of Biomimicry New England, Elsje Zwart of Gloucester 400+ and Nathan Ives of Project Elm are partnering to plant 400 native trees and to identify the oldest 400 trees in Gloucester.

The 400 Tree Project wants to hear soon from people with locations for planting, because new trees must be ordered in a few weeks. The project hopes to plant at least 200 trees this spring as part of its effort to put 400 new native trees in the ground over the next two years.

Anyone who would like a free elm tree can go to https://www.capeannelms.com/. For free oaks or other trees, email 400treesgloucester@gmail.com with your name and address.

Cape Ann Animal Aid Pet of the Week

Peanut, 5, is still looking for her forever home. A well-behaved cat who consistently uses her litter pan for urination, she prefers to do her bowel movements outside of the pan. With a bit of guidance and patience from her new family, perhaps she can learn to use the litter pan consistently. Despite her shyness, Peanut loves to snuggle up near her humans while they read or watch TV. With a little patience and understanding, she is sure to thrive in her new home and bring joy to everyone she meets. Please visit this section of our website if you are interested in adopting: https://www.capeannanimalaid.org/adopt.html.

Voting for the BONS 2023 Readers' Choice Awards is open now through May 1, 2023 at midnight.
