"RECIPROCITY: THE BASIS OF OUR RELATIONSHIP

WITH MOTHER EARTH!" - REV. JIM FRANCEK

Earth Day 2024

On April 21st we will gather to remember and value the gift of nature that has gifted us with life and continues to sustain us each day with warmth, oxygen, water, and nourishment.

Our service will include a teaching on interdependence entitled “THE THREE SISTERS” from Grandmother Nancy Andry a storyteller, pipe carrier and sun dancer of the Algonquin nation. Pat Francek will share a poem capturing the beauty and inspiration provided by nature. Lindy Hennessey will give witness to the direct gift of earth she has received. Raleigh Padgett flute and drum maker of the Cherokee nation will share his inspiring sounds. Rev. Jim Francek, our community minister, will share his heart felt inspiration on RECIPROCITY… the basis of our relationship to Mother Earth. Our closing will bring the sounds of the heartbeat of Mother Earth gifted us by our native participants.

SUNDAY, APRIL 21 ~ 11:30 AM

UU Westport's Reproductive Justice team is pleased to invite all to join Rep Anne Hughes in the sanctuary after our April 21 service, as she discusses the political landscape for reproductive justice issues in Connecticut and nationwide. Hughes is serving her third term in the CT General Assembly, representing Easton, Weston, and Redding. She is an enthusiastic member of the Aging, Labor and Public Employees Committee and the Human Services Committees. A leading voice for reproductive freedom, she has sponsored essential pro-choice legislation that has

SHARE YOUR IDEAS FOR SHARE THE PLATE

share the plate

TUUCW's monthly Share the Plate service is just one example of our congregation's rich history of social justice work--a living example of our mission to "Inspire, Connect, and Act." Click HERE for a list of the Share the Plate recipients in 2023.

The Social Justice Council (SJC), along with Rev. Alan, invites you to participate in a new process for selecting Share the Plate recipients. Click HERE for Selection of Share the Plate Beneficiaries. Members may nominate 501(c)(3) non-profits that fit certain criteria; the SJC then creates a ballot of vetted nominations which is emailed to the congregational community for consideration and review. Members must be present at the Annual Meeting in June to vote for up to six organizations that will receive our Share the Plate donations for the new fiscal year. Each of the 11 beneficiaries receiving the most votes will participate in one Share the Plate service during the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Please submit Nomination Form by April 30 to socialjustice@uuwestport.org. Members of the SJC will be available in the foyer after Sunday's service to answer your questions and provide necessary forms and documents.

HOUSEKEEPING NEEDS ON SUNDAY MORNINGS

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport Sanctuary March 2024

We are currently looking for a volunteer(s) to help us with housekeeping on Sunday mornings.

We need help with ensuring all in is in place: candleboat, candles, chairs, chalice, hymnal cart, Orders of Service, foyer, a glass of water for the speaker. We also need help with tidying up after the service and ensuring the thermometers are turned off.

While these may seem like menial tasks they are actually quite important for the service to run smoothly and your help would be greatly appreciated. For more information please contact Rev. Ed Thompson or Rev. Alan Taylor.

It can be a wonderful gesture to donate flowers for our Sunday services. A traditional hanging basket, or flowers of your own choosing that you bring to us, are both great options. Take them home with you after the service (just return the basket!). Reach out to Ruth to get started. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Please wear your nametag on Sunday mornings. If you've lost yours, let an usher know, and we'll get a new one made up for you. Or you can contact Ruth in the office.
