Courage to Create Change: Resist & Reform – Ravi Sankar
| |
|
History is replete with inflexible, intrusive and often oppressive societal systems and religious laws. In the darkest moments reformers have come along to change the course of civilization with great courage and personal sacrifice. How will their stories inspire you to create change?
Come listen to Brahmo and Rabindra Sangeet - spiritual, haunting and inspirational music from the Brahmo Samaj, a social justice and religious reform movement from 19th century India.
Unitarians have had ties of faithful solidarity and friendship with the Brahmo Samaj leaders such as Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Rabindranath Tagore and Swami Vivekananda.
Sermon: Ravi Sankar, a long time Unitarian Hindu will share how reformers through history inspire us to be the change.
Music: Dr Dola Sengupta, the Vivekananda Vedanta choir and friends will present classical Brahmo and Rabindra Sangeet.
Talk Back with presenters immediately following the service

SUMMER POTLUCKS: Fridays, July 19 and August 16 at the Pavilion at Sherwood Island State Park. They will begin at 5 o’clock Because the park closes 15 minutes before sundown and we will be asked to leave by 7:30. Your car just needs a CT license plate to get in. Bring something to share if you can...no rules. What's the worst that could happen? Too much wine and dessert?? It always works out. Bring your own plates and cutlery. Replies go to Eileen Belmont.
| |
The Women's Circle with Grandmother Nancy will not take place during the summer months. We will reconvene in the fall. Meanwhile, please look at the various events and meetings available through Mending the Sacred Hoop Committee. Grandmother Nancy helped found this committee and is both an active leader and member welcoming all who are interested in attending events.
If you're doing your spring cleaning, we are now collecting jewelry and scarves for the Holiday Boutique. Leave any items in the office with your name on them. Thanks.
