SOCIAL ACTION AND JUSTICE: OUR PRINCIPLES IN ACTION

Our congregation has a rich history in both social action and social justice addressing both immediate needs and working toward long-term solutions guided by our faith and expressed in our UU Principles.

Social Action deals with the world as it is: providing direct assistance to people to meet their basic needs now. It tends to be one to one or for small groups of people nearby. Reading to or tutoring students at the Beardsley School, setting up apartments for arriving refugees, and providing Brown Bag Lunches to food insecure people are examples of social action in our congregation...Click HERE for more

VOICES CAFE PRESENTS WINDBORNE'S MUSIC OF MIDWINTER

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16 ~ 4:00 PM

benefitting Helping Hands Outreach

John Street Bridge lunches

Voices Cafe's December 16th concert, Windborne's Music of Midwinter, will benefit Bridgeport's Helping Hands Outreach's holiday efforts for needy families.

Our friends at Helping Hands know that they can count on us...after all, we've delivered over 36,000 lunches to their John Street Bridge clients! On December 16th, we'll support Helping Hands through donations of unwrapped toys and gift cards, to be shared with children and youth to brighten up their holidays.

This Voices Cafe concert promises to be "a profound vocal experience" with the stunningly powerful harmonies of Windborne, as well as a moving experience for our community as we support Helping Hands Outreach's holiday effort on behalf of needy families.

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE

Share the Warmth

With winter coming soon, the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) is asking us to extend our warmth to newly arrived refugee families needing winter clothing. You can make a difference by donating NEW winter clothes, including coats, gloves, scarves, and hats for all ages.

Several Beardsley School students also need winter coats, 5th grade girls and boys sizes youth L or XL and several pre-K students size 5/6 and 10/12.  Any gently used coats donated will be given to Beardsley School and to our John Street lunch recipients.

Please place your donations in the bin in the foyer. It’s important to remember that staying warm is not just a matter of comfort, it’s a necessity. Any questions please contact Kathy Roberts.
