"STARTING POINT" RESUMES ON ZOOM, THURSDAY EVENINGS, MARCH 9, 16 and 23 7:00-8:30 PM
Starting Point compass logo
Rev. John offers a new Soul Matters Starting Point program on Thursday evenings on ZOOM: March 9, 16 and 23, 7:00-8:30 PM. Please contact Ruth Fontilla to enroll and get ZOOM link.

Each week of this engaging program focuses on different aspects of Unitarian Universalism, the history of our faith, and of our congregation. We will be sharing our spiritual journeys and getting to know one another. At the end of the program, folks can choose to meet monthly as a Soul Matters Sharing Circle.

This is an excellent way for newcomers to get to know our congregation and the UU faith, and to get grounded and informed. It is also a wonderful way for longer-time members to reflect, learn, and both meet new people and renew old connections.
UUWRITERS: THURSDAY, MARCH 16 AT 1:00 PM OR 7:00 PM
gold pen
Our next theme for UUWriters is The Path of Vulnerability. Sharpen your quills, pens, or laptops, and join on us on Thursday, March 16 at 1:00 PM or 7:00 PM. All are welcome. To kickstart your writing, prompts will be emailed to you. The packet includes poems and songs for inspiration. Take as little as 15 minutes to write something to bring to the workshop on Zoom. Rather than critique the work, we discuss how we connected to it. For questions and the packet, contact Sari.
"FREE RENTY" POTLUCK, DOCUMENTARY SHOWING and
SPECIAL GUEST. SATURDAY, MARCH 18 - 5:00 PM IN THE SANCTUARY
Join us for a potluck dinner followed at 6pm by “Free Renty,” a documentary about Tamara Lanier of Norwich, CT, an African American woman who has been determined for fourteen years to force Harvard University to cede possession of daguerreotypes (early photographs) of her great-great-great grandfather, Renty, and daughter Delia, enslaved in South Carolina. The daguerreotypes, commissioned in 1850 by a Harvard professor, attempted to “prove” white supremacy. The film tracks Lanier’s lawsuit against Harvard, and features author Ta-Nehisi Coates, and attorneys Benjamin Crump and Joshua Koskoff, who recently prevailed in the Adam Jones defamation lawsuit. Ms. Lanier will be our honored guest, and Mr. Koskoff may join us, too. Don’t miss this and invite your friends; it is open to the public. Questions? Contact Nate Pawelek or David Vita.
SAVE THE DATE FOR TRIVIA NIGHT! FRIDAY, MARCH 24 - 7:30 PM
The Membership Team invites you to bring your friends, some snacks, and lots of beverages for a fun night of Trivia. Babysitting will be provided. We're giving you a few weeks notice to study up! Contacts: Dayle Brownstein and Jim Cooper.

FINANCE 101 (7): AN INNOVATION FUND TO VET AND SEED NEW IDEAS TO SUPPORT US FINANCIALLY, YEAR OVER YEAR
Finance dollar
The Financial Sustainability Task Force is considering starting an Innovation Fund to help us build new ways of supporting our community financially that go beyond pledging and traditional annual fundraising events. Last September, Rev. John asked us to consider how we could create a culture of experimentation and embrace commercial enterprises that do good and support our congregation and our values. As an example, he described a coffee house in Brighton that was part of a vibrant congregation he visited ...

We’d like to explore how we can finance our mission in “out of the box” ways for the long-term, and we need a small team to help us. How would we “get and vet” ideas? Provide seed funding? Determine boundaries? If you want to help, we'd welcome it! Contact Brian Lasher, Steve Grathwohl or Beth Cliff.

HEALTH CARE IS A HUMAN RIGHT
HUSKY 4 IMMIGRANTS
Health Care Is A Human Right
I believe that all Connecticut citizens deserve access to health insurance, including the children of undocumented immigrants. Without health care coverage, many parents delay seeking care for their children until their condition requires an emergency room visit or hospitalization.

Because of advocacy efforts over the past 3 years, children of undocumented immigrants up to age 13 are covered by HUSKY, Connecticut’s Medicaid. A bill (HB 6616) is being introduced in the Connecticut General Assembly to expand access to HUSKY for all income eligible Connecticut residents up to age 26, regardless of immigration status. I will be reaching out to you to contact your state representatives to support this legislation. Please CLICK HERE for Why Expand to Age 26? David Vita Legislative Advocacy & Community Outreach
