The GP is the limited-production ultimate version of the Mini Cooper, available in only two model years. It was first imported to the U.S. for the 2006 model year, and then again in 2013. There were 500 GPs imported here in the U.S. in 2013 and the car being offered here by the original and only owner is number 174 of those 500 vehicles. All 2013 GPs were “Thunder Gray” and featured a unique paint scheme, Recaro sport seats and xenon headlights among other GP-specific features. The base version of the Mini Cooper is the Hardtop; the next upgrade is the “S” model, then the “John Cooper Works”, and finally the “GP”.
The GP was factory designed to be taken to the track. It is lighter due to the deletion of the rear seats, the rear wiper and the spare tire. The GP has model-specific aerodynamic features as well, including front spoiler and carbon fiber rear spoiler. It has a 211 HP high performance, turbocharged and direct injected 1.6 liter, 16 valve 4-cylinder engine and a six speed Getrag manual transmission. The GP has excellent Brembo “big red” brakes that will stop in very short order. The GP model also included cross strut braces in the front and rear and has an adjustable suspension (special factory suspension adjustment tools are provided in the tool kit). The GP will accelerate from zero to sixty in less than 6 seconds, and will surprise many other drivers.
Although the GP is track oriented, this particular vehicle has never been tracked, autocrossed or abused by its senior owner. Spirited cruising has provided sufficient thrills. The handling is lightning quick (especially in the switchable “Sport” mode) and the ride is firm, but the GP does have the comforts of power steering, power windows, heated seats, radio and automatic climate control.
This GP has been meticulously dealer maintained since new (most recent oil/filter service was 1,500 miles ago). Complete service records are included as well as all original documents and materials that were provided with the vehicle when new. The car has a clean CarFax record. The owner’s-manual packet even still has the original protective tape over the “Mini” logo.
This GP has been 100% garaged since new and has zero winter miles. The car appears and drives essentially as it did when new. All instruments and controls are fully functional and totally operate as intended, including the (very entertaining) switchable factory sport exhaust.
The GP was designed to use sticky run-flat autocross tires, and was delivered from the factory so equipped. The run-flat tires on this particular car were quickly replaced with more comfortable normal tires (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires installed 10,000 miles ago). Since the GP was delivered with no factory provided spare tire, in order to gain some on-road peace of mind, a fifth OE GP wheel was purchased ($500) to be used as a full size spare. This spare wheel (and tire) is included with the vehicle. The original very low mileage sticky run-flat autocross tires are also included.
The vehicle now has color coordinated after-market Coco Mat floor mats. The original never-used “GP” factory floor mats are included. Black mirror covers are installed on the vehicle, and the original never-used red mirror covers are included.
The owner of this fast and extremely fun-to-drive GP will be very sorry to see it go, but he has become afflicted with an acute case of Porsche fever and needs the garage space for that.
