Its hydroformed steel structure is four and a half times as stiff as the previous Corvette’s. Elsewhere, the use of aluminum, magnesium, and even balsa wood (in the door sections) cut weight. The aluminum LS1 V-8 was a clean-sheet design, sharing only bore spacing with earlier Chevy small-blocks.
This C5 Corvette is finished in Electron Blue Metallic with tan sport seats and interior, and a contrasting black dashboard and upper door panels. Options include active handling, ride control (with three settings), head-up display, Bose audio (with cassette player and remote multi-disc CD changer), power & memory seats, and dual-zone climate control.
The engine has been enhanced with a Comp Cams camshaft, an Air Aid intake system, long tube headers, and a Corsa exhaust - all resulting in a dyno report showing 396 HP – close to Z06 level, but for less money.
It rides on five spoke polished wheels and BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2 tires. The included Carfax report notes an incident in 2005, and damage to the front of the vehicle in June 2017, which reportedly resulted in a replacement front fender and bumper cover. That disclosed and properly repaired, it looks, runs and drives great.
With extra power and gobs of torque, it pulls strongly in any gear. When it comes to pavement-ripping prowess per dollar, few others, if any, can match this Corvette’s power and grip. This C5 is solid, strong and a hoot to drive.
