1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL
5.5 L MFI 227 HP SOHC M117 V8
4-Speed Automatic Transmission
 88,430 Miles
The 560SL was Mercedes’ most powerful SL of the decade, and the last of the R107 series. Its bigger 5.5-liter V-8 engine’s 227hp did a fine job of accelerating it from a standstill to 60 mph in 7.3 sec. (still respectable for a classic luxury cruiser) , with a top speed of 130 mph. The engine was much torquier, too, which greatly improved the cars’ dynamics. Likewise, the car received a new rear suspension and a limited-slip differential to better handle the added torque and power. Mercedes-Benz also added anti-lock brakes, leather upholstery, an alarm system, and an air bag, all of which better suited the car’s premium price tag.
The 560SL sold well, outpacing the 450SL and 380SL. Today, many enthusiasts gravitate towards the 560SL, as it retains some of the original lines of the pagoda SLs, while carrying with it all of the R107’s advances. It remains a popular choice for those enthusiasts who value verve and build quality for a low price of entry.
Finished in a custom color black with a blue metallic clearcoat and a matching removable hardtop, a light tan convertible top and interior, this SL is pristine, having been lovingly cared for and well maintained by its current owner of eight years. Originally a red Arizona car, and somewhat faded, the current owner commissioned a proper repaint and color change to a custom color black with a blue metallic clearcoat that looks beautiful from any angle, in any light. It is otherwise all original, with the exception of a modern mp3 audio system/head unit and speakers. The A/C has been converted to R134a and works just fine. The convertible top and its windows are in excellent shape, as is the removable hardtop, with its cart and cover included.
Originally priced at over $60,000 in 1988, this car was Mercedes’ top of the line. These cars were known for their vault-like solidity and build quality. Today, it still feels as solid and well-built as the day it came out of Mercedes’ Sindelfingen plant - and drives, goes, handles and stops as one would expect it should. German luxury, defined and embodied. The exterior and paint are gorgeous, and both tops are excellent, (though there is a minor cut in the hard top’s headliner). The interior is also excellent overall, (with only some wear showing on the driver’s side seatback bolster, commensurate with age and mileage).
This SL has been well taken care of, properly serviced, and always garaged. Tires are brand new Michelins. All of its original books and records and a full car cover are included. This Mercedes needs nothing, and is ready for summer touring in classic luxury.
