Districtwide Career Expo is Tomorrow - Tuesday, September 10


SMUHSD invites students and their families to attend the annual Career Expo on Tuesday, September 10 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center and the San Mateo High School Main gym.

Parent Connect Sessions Start September 10


Raising teens can be one of the most challenging jobs you may ever have. If your student is not attending school or is exhibiting difficult behaviors, we can help. The San Mateo Union High School District has developed a Family Support Group with parents and primary caretakers in mind.

National Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15- October 15


National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of those living in America whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The month includes the independence days of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Chile, and Belize. We believe that National Hispanic Heritage Month gives us the opportunity to highlight and celebrate the contributions of our Latino community. SMUHSD is committed to honoring the rich diversity of our Latino community throughout the year.

First District English Learner Advisory Committee Meeting of the Year is September 25


The first DELAC meeting of the year is Wednesday, September 25! We invite parents/guardians and community members to attend these meetings! 


The District’s English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) members advise the District’s local governing board on programs and services for English learners.

Report Safety Concerns Anonymously


The San Mateo Union High School District is pleased to announce that our school district has enrolled with STOPit, by STOPit Solutions.


STOPIt is an online reporting tool designed to deter and mitigate bullying, cyber abuse, and other inappropriate behaviors, consisting of an app and a back-end incident management system for school administrators.


No personal information is needed to use STOPit. The only way personally identifiable information will be accessible through STOPit is if a requester voluntarily includes it within the content of a request or message.

San Mateo Adult and Career Education is hosting a Career Fair on Friday, September 27 with JobTrain. The Career Fair will be held from 1 - 3 p.m. at SMACE, 799 E. Poplar Avenue, San Mateo.

Mills High Music Director Honored by California Jazz Alliance


Congratulations to Mills High School Music Director Dave Gregoric - he was just selected as a 2025 California All State Junior High Jazz Band director out of all of the qualifying directors across the state! His dedication, skills, knowledge, and passion for jazz is such a gift for public school students!


Dave’s experience is extensive and summarized very nicely on the California Alliance for Jazz website


“Dave Gregoric has been teaching music at Mills High School since 2016 bringing over 28 years of music education experience and 45 years of life as a professional musician. He has directed outstanding programs at Valley Christian Schools, Marin School of the Arts and Mills High School. He has also worked with summer camps and year round programs with the Monterey Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival and Stanford Jazz workshop.


Mr. Gregoric has received Educator Awards from the National Endowment of the Arts, Stanford Jazz Workshop, Jazz At Lincoln Center, SMUHSD, San Jose Jazz Society, NSHSS, and Valley Christian Schools. Dave has also received CMEA (Bay Section) Outstanding Jazz Educator Award and San Jose Stage Top Honor Awards for Musical Direction and Pit Orchestra.”

Bay Quest Program Wins Outstanding Achievement in Learning Award

The Bay Quest program was a recipient of a California Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE) 2023-24 Grazer Outstanding Achievement in Learning (GOAL) award. GOAL Awards recognizes innovative and replicable programs that result in positive outcomes for students with disabilities in the State of California. The award was presented at the ACSE meeting on June 12.


Bay Quest is housed on the College of San Mateo campus and is designed to serve students in their 3rd and 4th year of transition. The program offers paid work experience, independent living skills instruction and more.

San Mateo High Student Wins Cover Art Contest


Congratulations to San Mateo High School (SMHS) 11th Grader Shayla Peralta Lopez - she won the San Mateo County Department of Agriculture & Farm Bureau's cover art contest for her stunning representation of agriculture featuring flowers, livestock and the hardworking farmworkers in San Mateo County.


SMHS student Tamar Dayagi came in second place and SMHS students Poema Bowen and Anja Voss, both received Honorable Mention.

Black Youth Advisory Board (BlackYAB) Seeks Applicants


The Bay Area Community Health Advisory Council (BACHAC) is seeking applicants for its Black Youth Advisory Board (BlackYAB). BlackYab is recruiting middle and high school students for the 2024-2025 school year! Applicants must identify as Black/African American, Black Immigrants, or Multiracial/Black. All genders are welcome to apply and young men are strongly encouraged to apply.

Millbrae Mid-Autumn Festival


Come to the 2024 Millbrae Mid-Autumn Festival, where ancient traditions and modern festivities come together to create a unique and memorable experience. At the event, you will spend the most quality time and the happiest moments with your loved ones.


More than 150 food vendors and arts/handicrafts vendors are coming to the event. There will also be a large Kid's Zone which includes jumping houses and kids activities.


This event will also include various performances, including a performance by dancers in Mills High School's Latino Mentor Program.


The event takes place September 14-15 in downtown Millbrae, located at 200 - 490 Broadway.

Rotary Club of San Mateo Hosts Fun Run on October 20


The Rotary Club of San Mateo is hosting the Great Goblin Escape Fun Run 5K and 10K on Sunday, October 20 at Seal Point Park in San Mateo. SMUHSD Community members can use the code SMUHSD for a $5 discount on registration.

San Mateo County Tobacco Education Coalition Youth Advisory Group Seeks Members

Applications Due September 16 by 5 p.m.


The San Mateo County Tobacco Education Coalition (TEC) and the San Mateo County Office of Education are recruiting new members (Grades 8-12) for the TEC Youth Advisory Group (YAG) 2024-25.


YAG members have a unique opportunity to educate their peers about the impact of tobacco use, champion teen smoking and vaping prevention, and influence change in their school community.

allcove San Mateo is a youth drop-in center where youth can hang out, study, attend events, and access services. allcove provides a unique space for students to access resources and support for family, friends and the larger community.

The San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture and the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce are pleased to present the September Arts & Culture Fest - the best street festival on the Peninsula. This day-long event features LOCAL musicians, entertainment and cultural performances, artists and craft-makers, cuisine from around the world, wine and beer, and family-friendly activities in the heart of downtown San Mateo. The event is free and open to the public.

Free Mammograms Available at October 5 Pink Patch Party


The San Mateo Police Department is hosting their annual Breast Cancer Awareness event - the Pink Patch Party - on Saturday, October 5. The event will be held at 100 South B Street in San Mateo from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. and featured live music, food, games, raffles, and mammogram screenings!


Mammograms will be offered from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
