From your MBEIC Chair
We are excited about the Outlook for 2019 and all MBEs should be too!

However, before touching on what’s in the works for MBEs at SMSDC, the MBEIC also wants to thank Toyota Manufacturing for generously hosting Stakeholder’s Meeting; and our SMSDC leadership for bringing MBEs the opportunity to have our First RTF General Meeting on this day.
Both Member Corporations and MBEs alike enjoyed productive and informative sessions. Wouldn’t those of you who were there agree?

Our only regret is not having had more time to expand on our conversations after covering so many amazing news and starting to look into SMSDC’s and the MBEIC’s plans and ideas for this year.

As you know, some of the points that were presented included:

  • The introduction of SMSDC’s Board of Directors and the State of the Network.
  • Why Supplier Diversity Matters, the impactful force of MBEs in our communities, corporations and overall economy; and the role of Diversity in Social Responsibility.
  • The value SMSDC and NMSDC offer through their mission and commitment to create opportunities and to building a bridge between corporations and MBEs.
  • The release of SMSDC’s and new Website.
  • News about how a Texan investor and philanthropist recognized all the council’s value and has committed to sustaining SMSDC’s current and ongoing programs in support of MBEs.
  • A peek into SMSDC’s partnering opportunities with other organizations and entities for the benefits of MBEs; including potential consideration of certifications and event notifications from industry groups and government agencies and universities; such as vendor fairs.
  • Why involvement, active participation and volunteering at SMSDC and NMSDC are key for MBEs and Corporations to get their return of investment in the council.
  • Why it is important for MBEs to remain flexible and stay focused on what we do best.
  • The offering of the all new Plus Platform for corporations and MBEs to effectively market and connect with each other.
  • The importance of MBE to MBE relationships;
  • And so much more.

We know how it is not easy to drop everything to be 100% involved in SMSDC; however, when we as MBEs and Corporate Members understand and can better convey to our teams or top executives the importance of increasing our commitment as a collective effort; we can better plan and actually do more. With this in mind, presentations tailored to MBEs and Member Corporations with content on the importance of involvement were presented, and are made available to you. Please visit SMSDC's new website, www.smsdc.org , to learn more.

Thank you to all of you who signed up to be part of our RTF or MBEIC. Candidates’ names are in the review process for further consideration. Please be on the lookout for updates soon!

Your SMSDC MBEIC Chair,
Beatriz Fernandez

PLEASE DO NOT Let your
SMSDC Certification Expire!

Check the expiration date on your SMSDC certification. As a courtesy reminder your certification is about to expire, you will receive an e-mail notification from the AdaptOne portal which looks similar to the image above. DO NOT ignore this e-mail. It may to your spam or junk mail.

Once your SMSDC certification expires, ALL MBEs have to complete the entire certification process from the beginning. For those MBEs in the STATE OF TEXAS, in addition to completing the entire certification process all over again, the HUB certification, which enables you to bid on contracts, is no longer valid.  The HUB certification process is only done once a month. This means for those MBEs in the State of Texas, they will now have to wait an entire month for their HUB certification.
