Taking Advantage of Development Opportunities at SMSDC!

I have had the opportunity to participate in meetings and calls with MBEIC Chairs from other councils; and when we discuss the value of NMSDC and our regional councils offer MBEs, it stands out in my mind how SMSDC has for years offered something unique, and we have sometimes take it for granted; or what is even worse, not even participated in it when Capacity Plus was offered free of cost.

Perhaps we overlooked participating in these sessions because we didn’t fully understand how this key pillar “DEVELOPMENT” could actually help us and our businesses get closer to opportunities and to our goals, or because we did not know this is what was taking place at these classes.

I must admit, I have wished I could have “the right recipe” to getting the right connection or contract, but I may have missed some of those opportunities when they were in front of me, as I just didn’t know how to approach or cultivate them. This is what Capacity Plus can do for us.

The Capacity Plus program teaches us and helps us map our route, follow the right steps, stop and correct course as needed, have the flexibility required to adapt to different circumstances, and more. In addition to this, the program now will offer tools that can help us more efficiently register and cost effectively market to prospects, increasing our visibility in front of participating corporations.

Doesn’t this sound like what we have been looking for or what us MBEs have needed for so long? I have learned some of the right (and the wrong) ways of pursuing opportunities in spite of how much I have still to learn; and I know I need to better market to corporations. If this is offered at SMSDC, I (and I would say all MBEs) should take advantage of this great resource not offered (YET) by other councils.

I hope you make the decision that is right for you and take this opportunity to learn more about the Capacity Plus Program and Platform.

See you soon!

Your SMSDC MBEIC Chair,
Beatriz Fernandez

How can I make the most of my MBE Certification?

Active participation with SMSDC and our events is just one way to utilize your certification. Stay up to date with upcoming events through our website for opportunities to participate and meet others in our network.

PLEASE DO NOT Let your
SMSDC Certification Expire!

Check the expiration date on your SMSDC certification. As a courtesy reminder your certification is about to expire, you will receive an e-mail notification from the AdaptOne portal which looks similar to the image above. DO NOT ignore this e-mail. It may to your spam or junk mail.

Once your SMSDC certification expires, ALL MBEs have to complete the entire certification process from the beginning. For those MBEs in the STATE OF TEXAS, in addition to completing the entire certification process all over again, the HUB certification, which enables you to bid on contracts, is no longer valid.  The HUB certification process is only done once a month. This means for those MBEs in the State of Texas, they will now have to wait an entire month for their HUB certification.
