AUTOMATIC MEAL BREAK DEDUCTION

(CLASS ACTION GRIEVANCE)

Effective June 25th, management implemented changes to no longer require employees to punch out/in for their meal breaks on the timekeeping system and will insert a 30-minute unpaid meal break into the recorder hours -this may create an inaccurate accounting of actual hours worked.

YOUR CONTRACT LANGUAGE STATES:

ARTICLE 19 - BREAK PERIOD & LUNCH PERIOD

(PAGE 26, SECTION 2)

There shall be provided a thirty (30) minute unpaid meal period each workday for each bargaining unit employee. Employees may not work through lunch without supervisory approval. Such approval however shall not be arbitrarily denied. If the nurse is unable to contact the Nurse Manager at the time approval is needed or if there is a documented emergency or if the Nurse Manager is unable to provide relief, the Manager or Supervisor will be notified by the end of the shift, and a payroll notation made. In any event, if a nurse is required to work through her unpaid lunch period she shall be paid time and one-half (1 1/2) for the missed meal.

SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL

$20.00 SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL (SUPPLEMENTAL PAY) FOR RNs WORKING ADDITIONAL SHIFTS ABOVE THEIR FTE.


SUPPLEMENTAL PAY WILL BE IN ADDITION TO A RN's REGULAR HOURLY WAGE RATE AND WILL NOT BE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE RN's HOURLY WAGE RATE FOR PURPOSES OF CALCULATING OVERTIME.

ARTICLE 33-NURSING PRACTICES, SECTION 7. FLOAT POOL

(Page 59 of your Union Contract)

Any current full-time, part-time, or per diem bargaining unit RN, who is qualified and transfers to work in the float pool or any RN who volunteers to work outside their float block for the day at the Employer's request, will receive a differential of Ten ($10.00) Dollars per hour for all hours worked (up from the contractual five ($5.00) Dollars.
