In April, 44 small business owners received a certificate of occupancy or written authorization to 'Open for Business' from Prince William County Department of Development Services, bringing the year-to-date total to 139 small businesses that have opened successfully.
"On average, a business a day opens in Prince William County," said Mandi Spina, Director, Department of Development Services. "In April we saw a notable upswing in small business projects compared to last April and year-to-date numbers are the second highest on record at 139, just behind 142 for the same time period in 2022."

To date, 2,308 new and existing independent small business owners and entrepreneurs have received services and assistance thanks to the Department's Small Business Project Management Program (SBPM), which provides one-on-one customer assistance and project support through the commercial real estate development and building permitting process.
To qualify for the SBPM program, customers must have 35 or fewer employees and manage their own project. The SBPM program also assists customers in determining if their business idea aligns with the authorized uses and zoning of a property location. It is important to note that national chains are not eligible for the program.
