Dear SMA Community,
Our 8th graders started a new tradition of starting the year with an 8th grade sunrise. Parents organized breakfast goodies while students made lasting memories. Another upcoming special event is our Student Council Inauguration Mass. We invite you to join us Tuesday 9/13 at 10am. Parents/guardians are welcome to sit with their children. Dress uniform required (minus sweaters due to weather).
Our parish community is busy! First, we are encouraging our families to be included in the centennial parish memory book. Everyone photographed will receive a complimentary 8x10 portrait and a memory book. The flyer and link are below. Secondly, I hope you consider attending a free workshop entitled "Care for Our Common Home" this Sat. at 9:30 am in the parish hall. SMA's "Green Ribbon" award will be recognized. The flyer and more information are below. Dr. David Larom, interviewed on Channel 7 in Rome with Cardinal McElroy, will be one of the guest speakers. He lectures at SDSU on environmental issues.
Within the Academy, the Fall Festival Committee has been working hard to create a fun and exciting event for our SMA community on Friday 9/23 from 5-8 pm. This community-building event will offer low-priced games, food, and crafts. Please join us! Maybe you'll be the one to dunk Mr. Meza in the dunk tank! Beginning September 12th, our students will be taking the STAR Math and Reading assessments to provide teachers with a snapshot of where their learners are to improve weaknesses and leverage strengths. Please make sure your child is well rested and has a hearty breakfast. The testing window runs for the next few weeks, so teachers will reach out with specific testing dates for their classrooms.
PLEASE join us in the parish hall Tuesday 9/13 from 6-7:15 pm for our first all-school PTG meeting featuring anti-bullying expert Jodee Blanco. You do not want to miss her presentation! One of our cluster schools, Holy Trinity, will also be joining us for this event. Your children will be receiving an age-appropriate presentation from Jodee earlier in the day. Our PTG executive officers and chairpersons will be introducing themselves too. We all look forward to seeing you there.
In Mission,
Jennifer Miller
