Mission Statement
St. Martin of Tours Academy fosters confidence, curiosity, and independence through a climate of cooperation and trust by preserving dignity throughout the learning process, accentuating all children’s God-given gifts in a Catholic environment.
Dear SMA Community,

Thank you for participating in an amazing Catechetical Sunday Mass. We had a packed house Sunday and the 6th-grade class raised over $500 at their bake sale! This will help offset student activities costs for the school year including field trips or 6th grade camp.

The Fall Festival is TOMORROW! Join us for an evening of fun, food, and community from 5-8 pm! There aren't many restaurants you can go to for an $8 meal and $5 glass of wine/beer these days. Tickets are on sale in the school office or you can purchase them at the event. The Fall Festival will be located in front of the preschool and dinner/drinks are in the parish hall. All are welcome!

The kick-off of our 30th Annual Great Cash Giveaway is next Thursday at dismissal. The theme, "SUPERHEROS UNITE" will be at the Chula Vista Golf Course Clubhouse on Saturday November 5th. Teresa Propper, Mari Waldron, and Ally McGrory (gala co-chairs) have been working hard to make this an extraordinary evening. As part of our school contracts, every SMA family will be given a dozen tickets ($25 each) to sell or purchase themselves for a chance to win $5,000 or (5) chances to win $1000. Family packets with invitations and tickets will be distributed. More tickets are available in the school office. See below for an opportunity to distribute tickets after Sunday Mass.

Part of our goal at SMA is to grow self-sufficient learners who can advocate for themselves. Since the pandemic, we have noticed a trend where students yield to their parents for help instead of directly asking their teachers. This makes sense as our students relied on their parents throughout the distance learning period. Please join us in promoting self advocacy with your child by encouraging him/her to ask questions in class or email questions (perhaps with your help) as support. As Grace Pilon wrote, "It is important that adults understand that it is of primary importance for the child to develop feelings of importance, intelligence and the power of self-management" (from The Foundational Text of Grace H. Pilon, SBS, PhD). As always, thank you for your partnership!

In Mission,
Jennifer Miller
Principal
